Tue 31 Aug 2010 - 10:53
e621 is over. sorry. Thanks to numerous threats to our host, false claims of illegal content, harassment and a few things that are much worse, e621 is being closed down permanently. It's been fun running it. If you're looking for an alternative, try dammitfreehaven.com or something. If you want to come in and bitch at us, #e621 on irc.darkmyst.org will be a place you can do that. Or you can yell at me on twitter, twitter.com/ajkirwin or just email admin@e621.net and scream at me. Whatever. And to all those who have lied and threatened and caused problems, well, congratulations. You go

The Jeremiads: Why the Geek Hierarchy Has to Go

Tue 31 Aug 2010 - 00:32
"A few years ago, Lore Sjöberg, famous internet humorist, put into flowchart form what has been subconsciously understood among geek culture for as long as I've been a geek. There is an implicit hierarchy of respect among the geek tribes. Producers of paid, commercial content sit at the top of the cultural hierarchy and command respect far and wide. Furries, child gamers, and fan fiction writers rank at the bottom, with some combination of all of the above being the ultimate untouchable caste, and don't command respect from much of anyone. Somewhere in the middle are fans of various geek hob

Furry Author Nominated for Actual Award

Fri 13 Aug 2010 - 17:28
While hearing that Kyell Gold has been nominated for an award may seem old news by this point, hearing that he was nominated for an award by a decades old, non-furry, science fiction club adds a new level of legitimacy to the fandom. "Race to the Moon" (which many of you may know better as "that Kyell Gold story with no sex in it"), was chosen as a finalist for the Washington Science Fiction Association's Small Press Awards, in the category of Short Fiction. A total of eight stories were selected as finalists.

Cat Shit One Geta4s Early Figurines

Thu 5 Aug 2010 - 16:20
"Boy marketers don't waste any time do they? It's barely been a few days since the debut of the Cat Shit One series and there's already figures planned out for the market. These here appear to be some sort of limited edition deal and as you can see the detailing on the weapons is spot-on. Then again, given the appeal of these cute killing machines I'd say plushies are in order. Give me elite trained special ops rabbits that I can hug."

Rare Zebra/Donkey Hybrid Born at Wildlife Preserve

Sun 1 Aug 2010 - 06:57
"They may be an unlikely pair, but just five days ago a zebra and donkey in Georgia welcomed into the world one very unique-looking baby girl -- a zedonk! Officials at the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve, where the cute little crossbred was born, are as surprised as anyone by the very rare coupling. It turns out, the zebra/donkey romance has been many years in the making, but somehow the duo managed to keep it a secret. "The animals have been running (in the fields) together for more than 40 years, but this is the first time that this has happened here," says the preserve's founder. "We neve

Ultimate Horo Cosplay

Sun 1 Aug 2010 - 06:53
"This cosplay may deserve recognition as the ultimate in cosplay portrayals of wolfy goddess Horo, and not just because she is tastefully nude (or because the general standard of Horo cosplay is notably low). Sadly details on the cosplayer or any further images are as elusive as her clothing. Cosplay connoisseurs will of course be left wondering just how much of this example was the result of Photoshop application and how much actual cosplay aptitude."
