BoingBoing feature article on the fandom
The extremely popular BoingBoing blog has mentioned furry fandom numerous times - usually doing the typical jokes, but perpetuating the negative stereotypes nonetheless. Recently they've started to do special Feature Articles, and Lisa Katayama has written a pretty good one, "Fur Fun: The inner lives of furries", an interview with fan and fursuiter Josh Strom.

California to vote on Animal Abuser registry
The state that was the first to enact a registry for sex offenders is now considering a similar measure for people convicted of abuse of animals, wild or domestic. Animal welfare agencies are pushing for the measure, as are criminologists who state that such behavior is often a precursor to violence against humans.

Venus in Fursuits: Portraits from the Weekend's Furry Fiesta at the Crowne Plaza
"Standing on her hind legs Isis Valgen is much taller than me -- the horns help. Her mouth moves as she says, "There are not too many gazelles like me running around."
In a room behind us at the Crown Plaza in Addison, a crowd cheers as a line of giant furry animals take turns to limbo under a pole. A spectacular sight but not an unusual one at the hotel over the weekend, where more than 700 furries converged for the second Furry Fiesta. Quite the scene: wolverines strolling arm in arm with leopards; stuffed animals at the turntables; a field mouse browsing the art gallery; a mute sloth

Same Weekend, New Hilton!
"As of today, we are making a significant change to better accommodate our guests. After research due to high demand for the event, we have concluded that our current venue is unable to provide adequate space and accommodations for the convention. We have decided it is in the best interest of everyone involved that we relocate the event to a larger more accommodating venue.
Today, it is our pleasure to announce, The Hilton Indianapolis North will be taking over as our venue for IndyFurCon 2010. The new hotel houses larger spaces for our events, dealers, and more places for our guests to c

Terrifying animals made from car tyres
"The cat is just one of a zoo of beasts made by artist Ji Yong-Ho out of nothing but second-hand rubber.
Powerfully muscled sharks, lions and rhinos also feature in his collection, with their flesh fashioned from strips of old tractor, bike and car tyres.
Each one takes three months to make and can sell for up to £52,000."

Fan's View: Inside the World of Fanfiction
""Fanfiction." Few words are as capable of inviting so much scorn, incite so much passionate debate over copyright, or bring on such a case of the shuddering horrors. When the gaming community talks fanfiction, it always seems to revolve around anecdotes of petty rages between nutty authors, atrocious grammar, substandard characterization, and any number of kinky tales that mate Pokémon trainers with seemingly every species of Pokémon available."

Naughty Dog Helping Naughty Dogs
"Reader Christopher was down at his local animal shelter in Long Beach, California recently when he noticed something a little odd.
The kennels there are mostly sponsored by companies to help keep things running, and most of those companies are pet-related. Dog food, cat grooming, that sort of thing.
Except this one, which is sponsored by video game developer Naughty Dog, the team responsible for the Uncharted and Jak & Daxter series."

Olympic City Fursuiting
"Saturday a bunch of us teamed up to head Downtown (Vancouver, BC) into the heart of the celebration for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics... We really had no idea how this was going to turn out with the massive crowds of people from all over the world surrounding us... Our goal was to become Team Canada fans to get the crowd going... An almost perfectly executed plan with just barely enough spotters and radios to keep track of us... Little did we know how popular we would become, thousands of pictures and dozens of people surrounded us begging for a photo-op... our only problem that day, trying t

Anthrocon bans fur over open carry
Guns permeate American culture - and fursuiters are popular targets, getting shot in CSI, music videos and even fan-made productions.
To foreigners, COPS is accepted as the gospel truth; visitors half-expect to see Mickey Mouse strolling into Disneyland with a .45 at his hip, or a rifle slung across his back.
But for residents, the truth is more nuanced, as two-time Anthrocon attendee David Ross found when he was banned after openly - and legally - carrying a firearm in Pennsylvania.

How to Train Your Dragon
"From the studio that brought you "Shrek," "Madagascar," and "Kung fu Panda" comes "How to Train Your Dragon." Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenage who doesn't exactly fit in with his tribe's longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup's world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from a entirely different point of view."
