So… I love the works of Da Vinci (even though 9 times out of ten I still type it “Vinchi”) and odds are, if you’ve looked at his work even fleetingly, you’ve seen Vitruvian Man. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then have a gander at this: http://www.guide-to-symbols.com/_im...../vitruvian.jpg . Even if you haven’t seen this image, odds are you’ve seen one or two of the many, maaaaaany spoofs and inspired by works (including the Vitruvian werewolf in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). In this, I wanted to stress the shifting nature of the lycanthrope, juxtaposing the human form with the lupine one, complete with mismatched lines on the joints. While the full moon is not as prominent in ancient folklore as it is today, it did have its place, like in the Perigord, a former province of France. Thus, the logical lycanthropic use for the circle used in Da Vinci’s work is to convert it into the full moon.

Woot, this was an early birfday gift for Wolfsjal, of her werewolf character, Domhnal. He just so happens to be Irish, and I love Celtic design… heck, I love all sorts of different world designs, ranging from Aztec and Haida to good ol’ Celtic. So, while I have a book or two per each style of my liking, I end up spending a lot of time in the library. If you like this piece, you may wanna check out a couple of my favorites, like Adrian Meehan’s Celtic Design: Animal Patterns and eeeespecially Courtney Davis’s Celtic Beasts. Of course, if you can find any book with good photos of the illuminated pages from The books of Durrow, Dimma or, of course, Kells, or of the neato bas reliefs like the erect cross-slab at St. Madoes, Perthshire, that works too.

A commission for Twitcher Snow Hound of his husky character turned lion =) I really enjoyed the coloring on this, and the background was a fun experiment. I rarely do digital art, so piling on all these commissions was good practice.
