Later on at Golden State Fur Con we met R. A. Meenan, author of the Zyearth Chronicles series of books. Which go like this, according to the web site: “A magepunk world with magic gems, dragon A.I.s, anthropomorphic characters, supernatural summons, magic mobs, time travel, war, deep platonic friendship, hints of romance, characters all over the LGBTQ+ spectrum, and creative swearing!” Which sounds like a great place to start! Shadow Cast is the first book in the series, and details for all four can be found at the web site.
The Meow Mix Cafe
Posted by bluehorizon on Wed 18 Aug 2004 - 15:25Dressed in a tuxedo, Simba sat at the front of one of Manhattan's newest dining establishments and nodded at people who greeted him. Then he yawned, began to roll on the floor and lick his paws. That's acceptable behavior at the Meow Mix Cafe, a new eatery designed especially for cats and their human owners.
New webzine to be launched
Posted by Chipotle on Wed 18 Aug 2004 - 07:43A new furry-themed online magazine focusing on fiction will be launching later this year. From the website:
Claw & Quill: Modern Fables aims to be a professionally-presented web magazine of speculative fiction and related articles/commentary. Specifically, C&Q is looking for stories that involve animals in a fantastic--used in the literary sense--manner. This could be stories from an animal point of view like Watership Down, the "animal people" of Cordwainer Smith's stories and Steve Gallacci's comics, or the lyrical magic realism of Ursula K. LeGuin’s "Buffalo Gals, Won't You Come Out Tonight."
The webzine is looking for both authors and artists willing to do story illustrations, as well as artists willing to submit already-finished work as "cover art" on the front page. More information, including submission guidelines, is available at the website, <http://www.clawandquill.net>.

Radisson Hotel Columbus-Worthington
7007 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43085
PLEASE NOTE: Morphicon's hotel and date have changed since our Anthrocon flyers (see our current flyers here). We moved so we could have access to a much larger space this year! This change is final; we will be having the convention May 6-8 at the Radisson.
Our theme for this year is "Growing Pains". Come help us celebrate many kinds of "growth" in the fandom: the personal, the physical, the social, and the spiritual. Our programming will include free food festivities, several performance events, and panels aimed at a wide array of furry interests--on issues ranging from spirituality to lifestyle to living with disabilities.
Check us out online at http://www.morphicon.org/ for more information about the convention, or to register online. See you next May!

Tigger Acquitted of Molestation
Posted by Trickster on Sun 8 Aug 2004 - 13:59Tigger fursuiter Michael Chartrand was found not guilty on the molestation charges brought against him. The charges occurred while he was working as Tigger at Walt Disney World, a role he considered a "dream". Today, he wants his job back. Disney declines comment.
Tigger's defense attorney is also a professional fursuiter. The DA's argument included an illustration of the hampered mobility of wearing a fursuit, which the attorney demonstrated in court by donning a Tigger fursuit himself.
The jury deliberated for less than an hour before returning the verdict. They said the fursuit defense had nothing to do with the verdict. It was the lack of evidence that decided the case, including the prosecution's inability to prove that Michael was even the Tigger in the photo. Click here for the full story.
