Sometimes, the publisher explains things perfectly well for us. Like this: “In this atmospheric tribute to the medieval folklore tradition of trickster tales starring Reynard the fox, beloved children’s cartoonist Ben Hatke turns his pen to a very special project for adult readers. Inspired by the 12th century tales of the indomitable trickster fox Reynard, this offbeat tribute to the archetypal rogue has a satisfyingly old-fashioned feeling to it. Although this Reynard adventure is entirely the creation of modern fairytale master Ben Hatke (Mighty Jack), it fits seamlessly into the body of Reynard tales still beloved in Europe to this day. Featuring evocative, charming black-and-white illustrations and a swiftly moving narrative, Reynard’s Tale follows our hero through a series of encounters with other classic figures from this body of folklore to piece together a headlong journey through a perilous landscape filled with murderers, kings, ex-lovers, mermaids, and even Death herself.” So there you have it. And it’s available now.

Seal For Hire

"They couldn't have done it without the help of seals like the one with so much personality she was dubbed Ally McSeal, who became so fond of her collaborators that she returned to their base camp several times, apparently just to say howdy."
Anthrocon elevator update
Posted by Duncan da Husky on Thu 31 Jan 2002 - 17:17I suppose it's a bad sign when elevator repair work is a major news item but judging from the reports from last year's Anthrocon it's certainly a matter of concern. The short version: they're going to get better (hopefully), but they're not going to be 100% fixed.
Fiery death warrant signed on the gorilla?
Posted by MelSkunk on Wed 30 Jan 2002 - 23:18The volcanic eruptions in the Congo are not only a threat to people, enviromentalists are worried that the two eruptions (with possibly more to come) may be the last blow to the wild population of moutain gorillas. Between refugee movement, lava flows and enviromental contamination, the mountain gorilla habitat might be damaged beyond the level needed to support the 650 or so remaining animals.
Baby Looney Tunes!
Posted by Rigel on Wed 30 Jan 2002 - 16:10From cartoonresearch.com:
Yes, it's apparently true - Warner Bros. Animation is a producing a new BABY LOONEY TUNES show, possibly for Cartoon Network.
BABY LOONEY TUNES has been a successful licensing property for Warner Bros. for about ten years. You've seen the party favors, the baby bottles, teething rings and such staring at you from the shelves of the supermarket. I believe there are even childrens books with the characters. LITTLE GO BEEP, the most recent Looney Tune theatrical cartoon was based on the Baby Looney Tunes Coyote & Roadrunner.
Internet rumor says Granny will be the caretaker of the lot of baby Bugs, Daffy, Taz, Lola and so on (ala MUPPET BABIES).

Beaver gnaws through red tape to build dam
Posted by MelSkunk on Fri 25 Jan 2002 - 10:08What an Austrian conservation group spent 3 years trying to get permission for, unsucessfully, a beaver created overnight.
The group was trying to get a dam to help divert water into a dried out tributary vital of the local river ecology, and the baver built his dam in just the right spot for that to happen. The human dam builders think the beaver did a spot on job, and hope his good work will land the little fellow a mate come spring.
Now even easier to eat your veggies...
Posted by MelSkunk on Fri 25 Jan 2002 - 08:52A Japanese group has genertically altered pigs to include spinach genes. Akira Iritani, spokesman for the scientits, said their meat would be "more healthy'' than normal pork, although it was too early to say if it was as healthy as spinach. It is considered an academic victory, and I'm sure people everywhere will agree that one more reason to eat bacon instead of spinach is good.

New category - Entertainment Media
Posted by Anon on Thu 24 Jan 2002 - 12:15We've added one more new category for articles submitted to Flayrah. 'Entertainment Media' is the category for news of interest to furs relating to television and movies, though the category could also be used for articles about theatre, music, or other media. I looked at the articles on Flayrah back to Jan. 1, 2002 and switched those for which this was the more appropriate category.
