At this year’s Los Angeles Times Festival of Books we met Bill Herrin, who was showing off his brand new illustrated book. It seems that while his granddaughters were visiting one day, they noticed his pet peacock interacting with a large wooden bear statue he has in his back yard. They asked him why the bird would do that… and he came up with this story on the spot. “A proud Peacock with beautiful colorful feathers belittles Paws the Bear brown fur, but Paws soon discovers through the help of Father Owl, what real beauty is. The Peacock and the Bear picture book takes you on a journey with Peter the Peacock and Paws the Bear through generosity and understanding that each forest animal is a special beautiful creature.” Illustrated in a striking style (it looks like an animated film!) by Ilham Fatkurahman, the book is available now in hardcover.
If You Don't Like The News, Fire The Messenger
Posted by Anon on Wed 20 Mar 2002 - 12:56Conspiracies are being flung around concerning the firing of New York Post entertainment reporter Nikki Finke after her scathing story concerning document shredding by Disney to dodge a Winnie the Pooh ownership lawsuit. Foremost is the theory that Disney pressured the Post management to sack the bearer of bad news.
'Ice Age' is all wrong!
Posted by MelSkunk on Wed 20 Mar 2002 - 00:31Sure, Ice Age is just a silly, furry, animated flick full of jokes, but some scientists feel the need to tell you the real thing wasn't all tae kwon dodos and sabretoothed squirrels.
As if we didn't know.

HILARIOUS parody with anthro flavor
Posted by noleuca on Fri 15 Mar 2002 - 15:13theonion.com, a popular news parody site, has posted a very funny story about "sexism among animals in nature." There is heavy anthropomorphication (if that's a word) of natural animal behavior on the part of some "scientists" conducting thier "research."
Not strictly furry, but VERY funny and apropos for those interested in behavioral aspects of anthropomorphics.

McDonald's "100 Years of Magic" Promotion Features Obscure Disney Characters
Posted by Rigel on Mon 11 Mar 2002 - 11:24McDonald's is promoting a year-long celebration of Disney with character figurines in their Happy Meals. Many are obscure, such as Practical Pig, Panchito, Jaq, Lucky, etc. This is significant in that this is the first time in decades that many of these characters (many of which are furry) are seeing the light of day, much less being featured. A full checklist of all toys to be released is at:
