Something delightful from Clarion Books: The Pebble and Wren graphic novel. “A little girl and her live-in monster learn about what makes them different — and what unites them. This graphic novel is a silly, sweet, and sometimes gross tribute to friendship, and to the wacky world we live in. Based on his webcomic of the same name, Pebble and Wren by Chris Hallbeck follows human girl Wren and her live-in monster, Pebble, as she teaches them all about how the human world works — from why the moon changes shape to why we don’t eat candy wrappers — while trying to unlock special abilities without which Pebble will have to return to the monster forest.” Find out what happens next.
Third webcomic for PalmOS/Avantgo launches
Posted by Anon on Fri 14 Sep 2001 - 13:02First there was Waiting For Bob, which now is 'waiting for comic'. Then there was Kevin and Kell, which doesn't have Sundays nor is fully browsable. Now, Stalag '99 has made the jump and made a mobile device/PDA edition. Same Stalag '99, but fully browzable on any Avantgo-browsable PalmOS or WinCE device. (Yeah, that's my comic, but doing a comic using all open-sourced tools such as the GIMP , Perl, and ImageMagick should be intresting.)

Light a candle against terrorism
Posted by Anon on Thu 13 Sep 2001 - 19:40My sister, bless her heart, forwarded me this message: "Friday Night at 7:00 p.m. (starting EST), step out your door, stop your car,
or step out of your establishment and light a candle. We will show the world
that Americans are strong and united together against terrorism. Please
pass this to everyone on your e-mail list. We need to reach everyone across
the United States quickly. If we all light candles at 7:00 PM in our own
parts of the country, by 10:00 PM EST, the whole country will be lit up with
the light of hope.
The message: WE STAND UNITED - WE WILL NOT TOLERATE TERRORISM.
We need press to cover this-- we need the world to see."
Post-terrorists: Furcon travel problems
Posted by Fred on Thu 13 Sep 2001 - 08:55I was lucky to make my ConiFur flight reservations on Tuesday, the day of the terrorist attack. I talked with my travel agent again today (Wednesday), and he is advising people to allow 2 1/2 hours to get through the new airport security in effect by mid-October. He also expects all airlines to announce considerable fare increases soon; it's the public who will pay for the increased security. If you plan to fly to ConiFur, MidWest Furfest, FURther Confusion, or anyplace else, it will probably be to your financial advantage to book your tickets as soon as possible. Check with your own travel agents for a second opinion. AMTRAK and Greyhound may see a surge in business.
Brief Hiatus
Posted by Aureth on Tue 11 Sep 2001 - 17:03Flayrah.com will be taking a brief hiatus from posting furry fandom-related news. I don't feel that it is appropriate at this time. Please feel free (and I encourage it) to continue posting to the below threads, especially in regards to any of our fan community involved in this (and I can't even think of an appropriate word to describe it)...disaster.
I am at a loss for words.
We will resume our normal publication at a later date.
Washington DC, Pentagon Attacked...
Posted by camstone-fox on Tue 11 Sep 2001 - 15:58Report from Northern Virginia Furs group moderator... on the DC situation
First, and foremost, there are currently no reports of local furs who are hurt or injured, however I have already heard that families of some furs have been struck with this tragety.
To them, I speak for many that extend our extreme condolences.
Accounting for friends
Posted by mwalimu on Tue 11 Sep 2001 - 13:08Many of us are friends with one another, who are concerned for each other's well being, and I'm sure we're all concerned about those among us might have been affected firsthand by the terrorist attacks earlier today.
If you are a member of the furry community with friends who visit this website, and who lives or works in Manhattan, the Pentagon, or were flying anywhere today, and were in a position that would have placed you at risk for being one of those killed or injured in today's tragedies, please post a reply here to let us know you are still among us. Likewise, if you know of someone in such a position and you have any word to pass along about them (good or bad), please post a reply.
World Trade Center Hit by Two Planes
Posted by Micah on Tue 11 Sep 2001 - 08:46This site is good for getting information on the survivors, and how you can help: wtc.toto.com. Also, you can donate money to the Red Cross through Amazon; they keep no part of the proceeds: ttp://www.amazon.com/paypage/PKAXFNQH7EKCX.
There's no definite person to pin the terrorist attacks on. The twin towers of the World Trade Center and a nearby building have collapsed. The Pentagon is damaged. A fourth hijacked plane crashed near Pittsburg. The Pittsburg crash is thought to have been related to a possible attempt on Camp David. Five warships have been deployed to guard the east coast of America, and two aircraft carriers have been dispatched to New York. All air-traffic is grounded
There is much call for both blood donations and monetary. Phone numbers to call for information about giving either:
1-800-HELP-NOW (money)
1-800-GIV-LIFE (blood)
OR 1-888-BLOOD-88

ConiFur souvenir book, charity auction, and t-shirts

There's still plenty of time to donate to the charity auction, benefiting the Washington State Ferret Rescue and Shelter. And the convention is taking pre-orders on convention t-shirts.

Midwest FurFest looks for charity donations
Posted by Aureth on Fri 7 Sep 2001 - 22:18Mirko writes: "Well, the gauntlet has been placed before us. The challenge is on.
The stage is set. The cliches are flying! :)
Midwest FurFest will be the final furry con of 2001, a year that's seen
furs' generosity surpass anything ever witnessed in the fandom. The
latest example was Mephit Furmeet, where a group of 360 fuzzballs
raised well beyond $6,000 for Tennessee's Tiger Haven.
Here in Flyover Country(tm), we shall attempt to do something equally
as impressive: raise enough money to keep a vital animal-advocacy
group running for months -- if not an ENTIRE YEAR -- by our efforts
alone."

FurSearch Running, Again
Posted by Aureth on Thu 6 Sep 2001 - 21:16Nexxus informed alt.fan.furry that FurSearch is running once again. I wasn't previously aware of this service, but it appears to be a furry-biased meta search engine. Potentially neat.
