Defenders of Wildlife writes:

"October 14 - 20 marks National Wolf Awareness Week. This week is an important vehicle for dispelling misconceptions and educating the public about the role predators play in maintaining biological diversity.

"The wolf is a striking symbol of wild nature, yet they have long been shrouded by myth and superstition. Earlier this century, this keystone species was methodically exterminated from nearly all of its historic range. Wolf Awareness Week encourages conservation efforts not only for wolves, but for all wild species."

To celebrate the wonders of wolves, here are some links to sniff out:

Environmental News Network offers a quiz to test your wolf wisdom (from 2000).

The Timber Wolf Alliance publishes the annual National Wolf Awareness Week posters. Be sure to check out their writing contest winners.

The International Wolf Center has a good deal of information about wolves everywhere.
