2003 Ursa Major Awards final ballot

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Nominations for the 2003 Ursa Major Awards for the Best Anthropomorphic Literature and Art of that year have been tabulated, and the final ballot has been prepared. These are the five finalists in each category. (In case of a tie for fifth place, all tied nominees have been included resulting in six or seven finalists in some categories.)

Over 300 ballots are being mailed this week to those fans who submitted nominations with their mailing address to receive a final ballot, plus those members of Conifur Northwest and of C-ACE who requested a final ballot. Due to circumstances beyond our control, none of the address forms signed at Further Confusion 2004 to get a final ballot were received by the Awards Committee. If you requested a final ballot at FC 2004, please send your name & mailing address again to fredpatten[AT]earthlink[DOT]net, or to Ursa Major Awards c/o Fred Patten, 11863 West Jefferson Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90230-6322. This goes for anyone else who wishes to vote for the 2003 Awards. Voting must be on the official ballot form, which we will mail to anyone whose request is received by 20 April. The postmark deadline for voting is 30 April. The Awards will be presented at C-ACE in Ottawa, Ontario on June 4-6.

Wouldn't the Moreau Omnibus be ineligible, since all three novels were previously release in 1993/1994?

A brand-new collection or anthology of previously-published stories is considered a new work. The 2001 Award in the Best Other Literary Work category went to "The Sound & the Furry: The Complete Hoka Stories" by Poul Anderson & Gordon Dickson, which was the first complete collection of all their Hoka short stories which had all been previously published individually and in partial collections. Another 2003 collection which got nominations, but not enough to get onto the final ballot, was "The Firebringer Trilogy" by Meredith Ann Pierce, the first single-volume collection of her novels "Birth of the Firebringer", "Dark Moon" and "The Son of Summer Stars".
