OK, eco-balance is important, but was there no zoo or school educational program that could have taken the chipmunk? Laws that require this expenditure of money and fuel (consider the pollution as well), make no sense to me.

Uhhh.... we DO have chipmunks in California!

Just let it go in Marin, its not a MUTANT chipmunk!

Or, heck send it to the Santa Barbera Botanical Garden, they have a large colony of them there!
