ABC, The CW order 'Beauty and the Beast' pilots

American television broadcasters ABC and The CW have both ordered pilots of new series based on the traditional tale Beauty and the Beast.

The Disney-owned ABC's pilot has been described as "a fantastical re-imagining of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast". The CW's pilot, in the meantime, will be loosely based on the 1987 cult-classic CBS series starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.

I'm eager to give it a chance, though afraid they'll somehow ruin the magic of the original story in some way.

Oh, come on, it's a tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, ever just the same, ever a surprise, Beauty and the Beast.
