Theory: 95% of people with animals in their usernames are furries
Whenever I see a person with an animal in their username (especially names that follow the [adjective][species] formula), they're either a furry, or a would-be furry if they knew about the fandom.
If they have "[adjective] fox" or [adjective] wolf" as a name, raise that number to 100%.

14 Year Old's Parents Say No to Having 18 Year Old Boyfriend
Hi. I have a problem with my boyfriend ... or ex-boyfriend ... or what ever I can call him due to legal reasons. I'm sure you are confused by "legal reasons." You see he currently turned 18, and I am 14. When my mum and dad saw that I was in a conversation with him they flipped and scared him into no longer talking to me. He tells me that it's because of the law and that he would if he could. I just want to help him in any way at all but cant. Do you think you can give me any advice?

Dear Little Fox,
Well, there are legal issues about this situation—something called the “age of consent.” The age of consent is a legal term meaning there is a certain age that, if you are below that age and someone has sex with you, it is considered a crime, often punishable by imprisonment. You wouldn’t be imprisoned, but the older guy could be.
Most states have a legal age of 18. There are a few where it is 17 or 16, but you, being 14, would fall below legal age in all 50 states. Furthermore, even if, say, you were 17 in a state that defined age of consent as 16, you could get in trouble with federal law, which says it is 18. This means that if you and he were in separate states and communicated sexual messages (photos or text with sexual content), it could be considered illegal. What is even MORE complicated is that even if you were both in the same state and that state allowed the age of consent to be 16, but the server which helped to transmit an email or other electronic message was in another state, that would be considered interstate activity and, again, there would be trouble with the feds. Lastly, it is a federal crime for an adult to take a minor to another state in order to have sex with him or her.
For you, though, it is less complicated because you are definitely under legal age anywhere in the United States. So, your parents are right about the legal complications. I would suspect, though, that their concerns aren’t just about legalities, but more about the fact that you are really too young to have a boyfriend who is 18 or older. You might think, hey, it’s only 4 years, but the difference between a 14 year old and an 18 year old is quite profound when it comes to both sexuality and maturity. These are the years when those things are developing, and you really have quite a way to go before you are considered an adult (this is very different from, say, a 20 year old having a relationship with a 24 year old).
Now, you might protest that you weren't thinking about sex in your case, but, honestly, any relationship that is on a level above mere friendship is bound to, sooner or later, have a sexual component, even if it doesn't involve rounding all the bases and heading for home plate.
Little Fox, I know our modern American society is pushing you to be an adult already, and also pressuring you to have sex, but Papabear says you have plenty of time for all that. Enjoy being 14 and hang out with people your own age for a while longer. The same advice goes to your would-be boyfriend, who should really be looking for clothes that fit in the age-appropriate section of the department store.
Hon, please take Papabear’s advice. It might not seem like it, but sometimes your parents do give you wise advice, and in this case I would agree with them.

Desperately looking for a few commissions before Christmas!
Hey, /r/furry; I haven't posted in a while, but I'm in dire need of a reputable (decent) artist to commission for a couple reference sheets and one scene illustration. I know that this is probably not the best place to be looking, but my ties with the fandom have been frayed over the past few years, and I'm not familiar with most of your go-to artists for commissions. My parameters are simply that I need it done by Christmas, and I need to keep it to $200 at the most. If that's asking too much, however, I would also settle for just one reference sheet along with the scene illustration, provided that the artist could draw the other character based off of a detailed description. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

What is a furry?
Ok to start this off,... I am a part of the furry and know what a furry is. But i want to ask you fellow furs a few questions. I'm writing a more intellectual paper (not for a class but for fun) titled 'What is a furry' and I wanted your guy's input. I plan to overview a great many things ranging from views, makeup and what we do as a fandom. Please give thoughtful responses and not a simple sentence. I'm trying to spark debate.
- Why do you think mass media hates furries so much?
- What more than expressing yourself (the part that's a furry) make you like the furry fandom, as in... What do you think seperates you from other fandoms beyond the obvious.
- What would you define someone who is 'furry' as?
- [Without reading anyone else's] How do you think the fandom defines one as a furry?
- Fursona's. How do they apply to you? In my mind a fursona is a identity of myself depicted as a furry. kind of like a different personallity but more unified. How do some people have multiple fursonas? I mean what's the point? I personally don't have a fursona although I am young in the community I'm sure that will change. That fursona that is /u/NJM_fur is to hard to see in the dark of hte closet. (reffering to closet furrys not sexuality [I'm straight])

Getting started
I have a friend who is a furry, and know a few others. My question is this. How does one get started? How do you decide on a costume or character? I doubt I could afford some of the fancy rigs I saw people wearing at Pandoracon a couple months ago, but I was impressed with the different looks. How does one learn about the lifestyle?
Also, is there a difference between furry and anthro polymorph?

I've seen a lot of commentary about TV shows generally 'not getting it' and not doing Furries justice. Hey, a somewhat new addition to the furry fandom here.
So like I've slowly found myself being consumed by the furry fandom, while looking up fursuit tutorials for a jiginka cosplay I'm working on. Anyway, I made a fursona, but I can decide on an animal I got my inspiration from, to make my species on FA. I was wondering, is it possible to say or fursona's species is a pokemon (that's prey much where I got e inspiration from)?

So I'm making a gijinka costume, and I'm making it with fursuit characteristics. (First time doing anything close to a fursuit) does anyone know what type of foam I need for digitigrade padding, and foot paws. Also does anyone know where I could buy that foam in Manhattan or in the 5 boroughs?
