Looking to commission a suit, advice? Suggestions?
It seems left and right my friends are getting fursuits, and I've always wanted one myself. I'm out of college and I'm currently looking for a job. If all goes according to plan, I should have a decent salary within the next month. That in mind, I would like to try and commission a fursuit as soon as I figure out my budget for other things such as paying off student loans, paying rent if I ever move out, etc. At the moment I do have enough to put a down payment on a fursuit provided it's under $500 (the down payment that is).
So what do I plan to have my fursuit modeled after? I have two options, either I go with my fennec fox character Liko: Link to ref sheet Basic construction, no need for airbrushing, possibly for the facial markings. Big ears are a must. My fennec friend who's local to me is begging me for it, so I'm leaning more towards it.
My other option is my striped hyena character Clave: Link to ref sheet A little more complex, so I wouldn't be surprised if it bumps the price up about $100. Intricate stripes, gradiented back fluff extending to the tail. This is a design I think would make for a more interesting and fun fursuit, but that's just me. Also from what I've seen, hyena, let alone striped hyena fursuits, are pretty rare. His design also fits the toony style more.
NEED:
- Budget: $1300-1800
- Breathable
- Posable Jaw
- Constructed using a duct tape dummy or similar method.
- A diverse gallery of previous work, reputable.
WANT:
- Minimal waitlist so it will be started within the next two months if I commission them soon.
- Can be made into a Partial with arm sleeves
- Good vision (at least for a fursuit)
- Feet paws that can fit in flip flop sandals.
- Amongst the gallery of work are hyenas/fennecs
- Good at keeping in touch with customers, can give progress reports (this apparently seems to be a problem with a lot of suit makers)
If possible:
- Skintight, yet flexible. (I want to fit clothes over it)
- Timeframe: finished by June at the earliest
Also what I might consider is getting a suit commission separate from the head. So any advice, makers you can point me to would be great. Now's the time to bump your or your friend's fursuit making capabilities. Also might as well vote on which of my characters you think would make for the better suit.

My boyfriend started drawing again and drew a sketch of a Red Wolf (world's most endangered canine species). What do you think?
B-Sides: Episode 20 - Fuzzy Notes, the podcast about the music made by furs, is 42 Episodes Old! For our 45th, I think ...
I can't wait for the Breaking Bad finale...here's a BB themed pic I made a while back.
Gave my 'sona a new hairstyle. Pretty pleased.

My Life as a Therian

Here is an article in the September 5, 2013, edition of Pacific Standard magazine:
http://www.psmag.com/culture/my-life-as-a-therian-64032/
It's about therians rather than furries, but I thought it relevant enough to include here. The article is a short interview with Shiro Ulv, who earlier in the year appeared in Logo TV's documentary What?!: I think I'm an Animal.
Brief mention of furries in the Savannah College of Art and Design newspaper

Here is an article in September 23, 2013, edition of District, the student newspaper of the Savannah College of Art and Design:
http://www.scaddistrict.com/blog/2013/09/23/fall-fest-2013/#.UkVmEx8Rj5A
It describes the various clubs and societies available to the students, and includes a very brief mention of "The Furries Club, a new addition to the list of clubs this year", with the above photo included.
