Going to Anthrocon? Find some of FNN’s Friends

Furry News Network - Wed 22 Jun 2011 - 20:18

Anthrocon Room Key

Comment below to let people know to look for you!  If you’re going to be on Twitter – leave your Twitter name.  Not a good idea to leave phone numbers or your regular email – if you want to leave an email, use a disposable one that you will ditch after Anthrocon.

Also, if you want any photos or videos you shoot featured on FNN, be sure to use the “Submit to FNN” link

While at Anthrocon, look for some of FNN’s friends – the cast of Furcast, Curt Pehrson, FuzzWolf & the FurPlanet crew & Nuka with the Anthropomorphic Research Project.

Furcast will be conducting interviews for upcoming episodes of Furcast.  They will not have an episode Saturday, June 25, but will return July 2nd.

Curt Pehrson will be filming interviews for his next Furry documentary.

FuzzWolf & Furplanet will be in the Dealer’s Den at A16/17/18 and he’ll have his podcasting gear so he may be doing some impromptu interviews.  He will be at the Brony meet on Friday at 3pm in the Westin and may do some recording there for Bronyville

Nuka and Dr. Gerbasi will be kicking off the summer International Furry Survey (Link to the actual questions will be up after AC)  Nuka will also be doing a panel Friday afternoon at 4:30.  Be sure to stop by and hell him “Hi!”

Wait!  You’re going to Anthrocon and you don’t have a Furry name?  Generate one here! Furry Name Generator

While we were not able to make it to Anthrocon this year, we hope everyone has an excellent and safe time at the convention!

Apes and Kitties

In-Fur-Nation - Wed 22 Jun 2011 - 01:59

Two newly-released trailers give us some further insight on a pair of films coming up later this year — films that furry fen might find interesting. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Rupert Wyatt, previously best known for his film The Escapist. Rise tells the story of a genetic scientist (played by current hot property James Franco) whose experiments with a brain-cell regenerating treatment lead to the creation of Caesar, a chimpanzee with the intelligence and will to lead his fellow apes in revolution against humans. Besides Mr. Franco and Andy Serkis (who plays the body-model for Caesar much as he did for Gollum in Lord of the Rings and King Kong in King Kong), Rise also stars Brian Cox, John  Lithgow, Freida Pinto, and Tom Felton (Draco from the Harry Potter movies). The film is set for release on August 5th, and the latest trailer up on YouTube shows how Caesar is raised by hand by humans, coming to care for them — and later, to resent them. Okay, so… from chimpanzees on to kitties. The newest trailer for Puss in Boots is out, though the film won’t hit theaters until November 4th. Antonio Banderas (of course) plays Puss, who hooks up with Humpty Dumpty (yes, the egg) and a flirty filcher of a feline named Kitty Softpaws, voiced by Selma Hayek.

“Chop Kick Panda”?

furryne.ws - Tue 21 Jun 2011 - 20:48
Spotted at Best Buy this weekend: Chop Kick Panda. I have no idea what this is, but a clip on You Tube (embed below) doesn’t seem so bad – looks like a rejected Cartoon Network pilot (and I mean that as a compliment). Anyone know who’s responsible?

BDBC: ‘A Non-Biodegradable Fox’ by Not Tube – Read by Alex Vance

Furry News Network - Tue 21 Jun 2011 - 20:35

Author: toonces

Much appreciation to Not Tube for providing this week’s story!

Matins

Newberg’s eyes cracked open to the sound of bells. He had no alarm clock; many years ago his need for one had vanished. He had begun waking just a few seconds before it went off, and then found that he didn’t need to use it to wake at all, though he’d kept the thing for a while out of habit. The cool grey light of dawn filtered through the film-spotted windowpan… Read more..

“Wilfred” Premiers Thurs June 23 on FX

Furry News Network - Tue 21 Jun 2011 - 19:22

Playing opposite a guy dressed in a dog suit in a cable comedy series isn’t what you’d normally expect from Elijah Wood.

But that’s just what drew the former Lord of the Rings star toWilfred, the new FX comedy bowing Thursday about Ryan (Wood), a suicidal guy who finds salvation in the form of a neighbor’s dog who appears to him as an Australian man (Jason Gann) dressed in a dog costume but as an actual four-legged furry friend to everyone else.

Elijah Wood to star in FX comedy pilot

“It’s extremely funny but it’s also coming out of a very real place,” Wood told The Hollywood Reporter at Monday’s Arclight Hollywood premiere. “Wilfred comes to him in this moment of crisis; it’s not just random. It’s potentially a manifestation of the part of his psyche that is pushing him to live and do so outside of his comfort zone.”

New Puss In Boots Theatrical Trailer

Furry News Network - Tue 21 Jun 2011 - 14:16

There are very few furry friends with as much swag as Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas).

Between his edginess and charm (and that super sexy Spanish accent) we all wondered, What’s his story? Well, on November 4, we’ll get the whole shebang, but for now we get a peek!

Puss is the protector of the town and makes justice a priority (when he’s not distracting chasing a dot of light). However, one mission becomes his defining moment: stealing the Goose that lays the golden eggs. Even after some licks of milk, he knows he can’t do this alone. So he teams up with Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and Kitty Softballs (Salma Hayek)—meow!

Take a look at the trailer for the adventure that awaits our feline friend.

'Unicorn' Brought Back From Extinction

furryne.ws - Tue 21 Jun 2011 - 13:37
The last of the Arabian oryx was believed to have been shot in 1972, but a successful breeding program has its population now standing at 1,000 in its Arabian peninsula habitat.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) moved the species from its "endangered" list to the "vulnerable" classification. The group told the Guardian that this is the first time a species that was classified as extinct has been brought back.
Many people believe the two-horned oryx is the source of the unicorn legend, the one-horned creature that's a prominent feature in storybook fables about princes and dragons.

Wildlife centre uses animal costume to rehabilitate bobcats

Furry News Network - Mon 20 Jun 2011 - 20:34

Author: Higgs Raccoon

WERCbobcat.jpgThe Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Centre at Morgan Hill, California, has an unusual method of preparing orphaned bobcats for reintroduction to the wild. In a technique similar to that employed in Giant Panda conservation, bobcat “mommy” Colleen Grzan wears a full-body costume when interacting with the cats.

Grzan teaches the bobcat kittens to socialize, and encourages bobcat behavior such as hunting and stalking. The bobcat costume ensures the cats will not become accustomed to humans, so they will stay clear of them once released into the wild.

To aid realism, Grzan masks her human scent by rubbing herbs over her clothes and hair; the costume itself is scented with bobcat urine. She wears heavy gloves and remains silent when crawling around with the kittens.

At present, WERC is looking after three bobcat orphans, who will be returned to where they were found at around nine months of age.
