This is partly inspired by the recent win of Sonicfox and the article that came with it.

I'm very curious to what people will say in the comments about this poll, and what the results will be :D

I'm a different furry with different opinions.

My take on furry and media is of course in the words of a scarecrow: "It's context sensitive"

However, given the big ol' cluster that has been covered in the mainstream these days, I think people welcome a fluffier reprieve.

As far as gaming news goes, it's not quite mainstream, I mean competitive gaming is fledgling and growing. People who are nerdy enough to watch competitive gaming are probably going to be nerdy enough to know what a furry is.

As long as we don't dismiss the opportunity to collectively pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and consider us done with the underdog position (like the case with other former subcultures such as Jazz and Rock), I think more furries in the mainstream only improves the image of the fandom. With visibility comes responsibility.

Well, depends on the furry who gets mainstream, don't it?

I mean, like, if some asshole gets famous for being an asshole, whoops.

On the other hand, if I get famous, well, obviously there's not downside to that, I think we can all agree.

Oh, and I guess polls are back to the sideboard again.

Partly what Crossaffliction said but overall it should be positive for furry's image. Whether it will have a positive effect on the furry fandom itself is another question. Kinda like how Game of Thrones is great for the image of huskies but it's not great for a lot of huskies. (Huskies are awesome!)

I think it will cut down on the amount of sensational 'look at the freaks' stories that will be done on the fandom. Basically people have gotten used to us existing and if they aren't part of it, they will ignore it because it's no longer a big deal to them. It also means that some of those who got into furry just to try to be edgy will have to find something else if that remains their motivation. We've been placed in a comfortable fandom compartment by many and I'm fine with that.
