"The Cat Returns" - new Studio Ghibli movie

Your rating: None Average: 2 (1 vote)

The latest animated feature by Studio Ghibli, the studio that has produced the features of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata ("Kiki's Delivery Service", "My Neighbor Totoro", "Porco Rosso", "Pom Poko", "Princess Mononoke", "Spirited Away", etc.), has just been released in Japan on July 19th; and it is a Furry fantasy. "Neko no Ongaeshi", directed by Hiroyuki Morita (Hayao Miyazaki is Executive Producer), is officially translated as "The Cat Returns", although there are two cats (Baron and Muta from Ghibli's 1995 "Whisper of the Heart") so "The Cats Return" would be better English.

The plot is broadly similar to Pioneer's animated feature "Catnapped!" A human girl is transported to a fantasy world of funny-animal anthropomorphized cats, and is transformed into one of them. She must decide whether she wants to remain in the cat-world, or return home -- if she can regain her human form.

Here is an English-language review in the Yomiuri Shinbun.
