Raccoon of Righteousness

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 17 Mar 2026 - 01:59

We found a new (to us!) comic series from Dark Horse, one that claims to be “Hellboy meets Redwall“. William of Newbury was created by Michael Avon Oeming, who previously brought us the well-known Mice Templar series. Here’s what Dark Horse says: “Loosely based on real events in 12th century England during what was known as ‘The Anarchy’. A time where the country was beset with plague, civil war, and demons. William of Newbury is a neurotic monk, fearful of the earthly world, but confident and unwavering in the face of true evil. He fights the dead to restore peace, but his brother is intent on stopping him, fearing for his soul. Newbury is dark, yet quaint, deadly yet cute. Follow him as he negotiates with thieves, evades his brother and the church, and battles the undead and evil spirits.” Issues 1 through 4 are now together in a trade paperback.

Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! Review

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Mon 16 Mar 2026 - 22:41

Every so often, a game comes along that not only surprises me but becomes one of my favorite games of all time. It’s rare - especially as of late - that it happens, but when it does? I can’t help but gush about the game and Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! is one such game. Not only is this one of the coolest and best games I’ve played so far this year? It’s also, quite easily, my third favorite game of all time and a prime contender for my game of the year. I’m serious, I’ve never had a game that made me smile this hard and gave me this many hours of fun since Earth Defense Force 2025. Yeah, there were games in between that release and this one that I had fun with and that also made me smile, but not to the extent I did with this title. Would you like to know more?

19 Year Old Is Having Problems Picking a Fursona

Ask Papabear - Sun 15 Mar 2026 - 13:41
Hello, Papabear,

How to know what animal for a fursona is for you? It's so hard to pick one, and I feel like I don't have their whimsy and pizzazz.

Cain (19)

* * *

Dear Cain,

Welcome to the furry fandom :3 IMHO there are two types of furries who pick fursonas for two very different reasons. The first type of furry is the kind who is a joiner and for whom a fursona is just a tool for playing games or participating in social activities. For such people, the species or type of fursona doesn't really matter because it is not a matter of personal expression. It is more like having a miniature figurine to play with in a game like D&D. If you are this kind of furry, then choose whatever and go have fun with it. Change it for the next MPORPG you play, if you wish, and so on, and so on....

The other kind of furry is the one for whom the fursona is a matter of personal expression. The fursona can be an extension of yourself, or it can be an idealized version of yourself, or it can be a form of experimenting with potential versions of yourself. For example, I have met furries who are male who create female fursonas, or they might consider themselves straight but create a bisexual or gay fursona. I have seen furries who create sexualized fursonas to experiment with kinks in a safe manner (you can't contract STIs by having virtual kinky sex). On the less erotic side, there are furries who love fantasy and sci-fi play, imagining themselves as bold warriors and adventurers, even though IRL they might be very shy and timid. But mostly, I have seen furries who use their fursonas as a way to express who they truly feel like inside, to shed the facade they put on for the sake of family and society and become real.

If your fursona is a personal experience for you, then dig down deep into yourself and feel what the right choice is for you, not forgetting that you can have multiple fursonas, hybrids, mythologicals, and even original species. You don't need "whimsy" or "pizzazz," words you are using that indicate you are concerned what others think about your fursona choice. You should never pick a fursona just to please or impress or gain the approval of others. The only person your fursona is for is ... wait for it ... YOU!

What species do you like? What features do you like? What colors? What body coverings? What personality? What occupation or hobby? The world is your oyster, and the pearl inside is whatever you make of it. This should not be a stressful pursuit. It should be fun! Joyful!

And remember, nothing you design now is written in stone. If you create a fursona and then change your mind about it, no biggie. People do it all the time.

In short, don't get so uptight and worried about your fursona. Relax! Chill! Whether your fursona is just a tool for game play or a deep personal expression of yourself, you're here to have fun, so don't forget that. Go play. Make friends. And stay away from judgy people.

Bear Hugs,
Papabear

Protest at Golden State Fur Con says Hilton houses ICE, gives you “a room covered in blood”

Dogpatch Press - Sat 14 Mar 2026 - 19:11

Source: breakicela – Protest March 15, 12-6 at LAX Hilton

Hilton collaborates with ICE while states and civil rights groups sue

When you rent a room at Hilton, you’re contributing to one of the most valuable hotel corporations in the world, worth around $70 billion. With that power, the brand has thrown their weight behind ICE operations that violate the US Constitution.

Hilton hotels hosted ICE agents in Minnesota while they murdered people like Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, and illegally kidnapped people off the street. In response to the brutality, Minnesota is suing the Department of Homeland Security for violating the constitution. It joins numerous fellow lawsuits from states, counties, and civil rights advocates like the ACLU.

Hotels that serve ICE have become part of the front lines of local resistance“, according to an article from The American Prospect: ‘No Sleep for ICE’ Campaigns Expand. Hilton “has found itself in the crosshairs of local residents who are unequivocally fed up with the hotel chain for its role in what they see as enabling state violence against their communities.” Pressure has grown from Minnesota, to solidarity protests from the east coast to the west, New York to California.

What happens when event management comes in conflict with member values, when events are already in motion, with contracts signed, tickets sold and travel plans made? Let’s look at two cases.

The National LGBTQ Task Force and their Hilton contract — and Punk in the Park’s problem promoter

While Hilton collaborated with brutality, The National LGBTQ Task Force had to address their Creating Change conference being scheduled at a Hilton. Their Statement and Action on ICE and Hilton Corporate was torn between obligation and values: “This contract was signed years in advance, as conference contracts almost always are. Canceling Creating Change at this point would have a devastating financial impact—not only on the Task Force as an organization, but on other movement organizations, local partners, workers, and activists who depend on this gathering.”

That didn’t resolve everything, but it was responsive. Their statement offered support against ICE and said: “This Hilton location has assured us that ICE will not be staying at the property during Creating Change.”

A multi-city music festival series, Punk in the Park, had internal conflict about their promoter (not their partner venues.) Veteran musicians were among dozens of bands who learned that the promoter donated to the MAGA cause. In the classic tradition of protest music, and punk’s fundamental anti-authoritarianism sung by Jello Biafra in the Dead Kennedys song Nazi Punks Fuck Off — people standing by their values condemned the promoter. Bands began to pull out, petitions circulated, and the promoter issued a statement claiming “it’s not about politics”. Some bands refused to pull out and were judged sellouts. Then Punk in the Park lost so much support that the whole series was canceled.

Punks put their money where their mouth is and took a hard choice instead of money not to. If furries did this, it would be like having dealers and Guests of Honor withdraw from a convention… which they did in New Jersey, in protest of corruption at Garden State Fur the Weekend, successfully rebounding with a new convention, Furgeddaboutit. LGBT people, punks, and furries have all stepped up to assert values instead of collaborating when injustice comes down.

Golden State Fur Con’s contract with Hilton leads to ICE Breakers protest

Since 2019, California’s Golden State Fur Con has held 6 conventions at Hiltons. Who knew the hotel’s collaboration with brutality would push the gentle fun of furry culture in front of a politics bus — and will we just act like deer in the headlights? People with shared values are finding out. They know that if we don’t do politics, politics will do us, and it isn’t a choice. Trans people who visit the US for a con can already be treated as illegal for being trans.

ICE Breakers is a campaign by Grassroots Activist International Association (GAIA). This activist collective was founded in 2018 to campaign for progressive causes, like addressing climate change, and this. It operates out of several cities to put pressure against collaborators who keep ICE operational and normalized:

  • Private detention contractors
  • Corporate logistics and supply chains
  • Technology and data companies
  • Hotels, transportation services, and facilities
  • Advertising and recruitment platforms

ICE Breakers works to make this collaboration visible, unprofitable, and untenable. Furries at a Hilton makes a case of a corporation working against our interest, but here’s why it’s a dilemma for the con to act.

Ignore problems, go bankrupt, or… (?)

For an annual convention, a hotel contract is a long relationship that isn’t easy to do or undo, especially on short notice. Agreements written long ago mean canceling can leave the event management liable for the cost of unsold rooms. According to posts by the con chair to a con Telegram group, the only operating funds Golden State Fur Con has are from registrations. Canceling and refunding would bankrupt them. ICE Breakers made statements (below) that appear unfamiliar with this bind.

Requests for official reply were seen and unanswered, so this is unofficial.

There’s more to say. Take the cases of canceling Punk in the Park, or Garden State Fur the Weekend. We’re talking about a big party and not going. One that has (1) a lot of money and travel plans attached, but with that, the power of a $70 billion corporation to maintain brutality that (2) we can fight. Priorities? Pick one.

If a con chose bankruptcy, incorporation is meant to protect individuals from debt. Then you have bad credit for starting a new con, but maybe others start from scratch, maybe you go to Anthro SoCal, or no con, but… you stand on values with victims of brutality. It’s a cost that comes with the politics of mass movements, like labor strikes where workers go without pay to force concessions from power by long-haul sacrifice and solidarity.

There’s also working to change venues in the long term, even if the con can’t move now, and supporting a message of “don’t do business with Hilton”. The con may feel silence is the least worst option, but ICE Breakers pressure on the Hilton brand is a tactical goal no matter where con management stands.

ICE Breakers response to Dogpatch Press.

Dogpatch Press contacted Golden State Fur Con for response, but got no reply by publication deadline, so the ICE Breakers response is posted in full below without further questions. Dogpatch Press raised rumored fear of fursuiter safety and asked what methods might they use, for what goals?

“We are honestly all so happy to see how invested the Furry community is towards protecting against ICE. With each new tactic we learn about another community, in coalition we stand together with hundreds of groups throughout LA, comprised of every imaginable culture and subculture.

For us, working with the furry community is new. But fascinatingly we’ve gotten far more response, interest, communication, and energy from GSFC than 99% of the conventions that use this Hilton. Commendable.

Regardless, We must understand that ICE Stays at this Hilton.

It is well documented. Weekly we see vehicles with people in full mask, with license plates taped. We then see those vehicles go into the Metropolitan Detention Center. They are ICE.

We also must understand the Hilton corporation has taken a strong stand to protect the interest of ICE Agents.

Even when people like Renee Nicole Good, and Alex Pretti were being murdered.

Hilton must agree to make a public statement that they won’t house ICE Agents.

Until they do we will:

Use any method available within the law. With zero regard to whose feelings we may hurt we will use every drop of creativity and commitment we have to protest this Hilton and many others consistently until they stop housing ICE agents. You can read here more about our tactics www.gaiaactivist.org/hilton We cannot relent. We must remain totally vigilant in finding Hiltons where ICE is, and letting every customer know.

We don’t tell the customer what to do, we let them decide if they want to sleep in a room covered in blood.

We can offer no reassurances. The convention, and its attendance (many which have already canceled) should feel a great sense of fear knowing that ICE is in the building. Any narrative which alludes that it is the protestors, or actions that present a risk… Is a gross negligence to the fact that it is far more dangerous to house an agency that routinely causes so much destruction. To lie to international travelers about whether ICE is in the building is heinous. GSFC is choosing to ignore local grassroots organizers, lie to its staff and attendance, all while putting people at great risk by not choosing a hotel with a strong commitment not to house ICE. (We’ve offered a few.)

While we have a great amount of solidarity, and a strong sense of protection around any marginalized communities that face oppression, we are not the same as trolls, nazis, or traitors [referenced by Dogpatch Press as reason why furry organizers may feel cautious in engaging, especially with history of the Califur convention being attacked by neo-nazi trolling].

The approach and tactics we use, we’ve been using since 2019 with great success. We just recently won a campaign on Spotify. But that is only one among hundred of corporations we have gotten to divest from ICE. In fact, we can happily say we win every single campaign we start. Because we never give up.

I hope this sums up a bit more about why regardless of the potential for disruption, or potential for upsetting some attendance, we must continue our weekly protest of this Hilton location.

If GSFC were to announce that either;

    • They will commit to choosing a hotel or site that has a public commitment not to house ICE Agents
    • Produce evidence of any kind that ICE is not staying in the building, or that Hilton has assured them as such.

We would immediately end the protest, and going forward, use every bit of our social capital to praise GSFC for doing the right thing to protect our community, and frankly for standing on the right side of history.

In Solidarity,

Grassroots Activist International Association”

Furries in the Epstein Files? Search brings up narratives where we fail to tell the full truth.

Dogpatch Press - Fri 13 Mar 2026 - 17:56

News in a moment: but first, recommended background for the Epstein story.

The Epstein files represent a major coverup of crime by wealthy elites, broken open as an ongoing public scandal. It keeps exposing worse and worse associations with dead financier Jeffrey Epstein. It’s a story of rich pedophiles and their enablers, including Donald Trump. Do you feel lost about where it starts and ends? Try this episode of radio show This Is Hell for an interview with an award-winning journalist who wrote a book about the coverup. It’s packed with fresh, conversational analysis to help you catch up.

This Is Hell! · Uncovering The Epstein Files & A Life Full Of Exploitation / Julie K. Brown

Furries in the files?

In 2019, Epstein’s alleged suicide in jail silenced him from having to testify about powerful friends. It couldn’t silence demands for the government to finally release documents of official investigation… partially and controversially so far. With over 3.5 million pages released as of March 2026 (and who knows how much more to come), you can search for any term in them and possibly get results.

What happens if you search for “furry” or “furries”? Dogpatch Press did this on February 14, before a completely separate effort by fellow furry reporter Sonious published on March 8. You should go read Sonious’ article that propels this one.

The contents had no major difference compared to what Sonious reported, but there are different takes and context to add.

Footnote: The same search on March 10 has 6 fewer results — the releases have been a mess with files taken back, like to redact victim ID or illegal material negligently exposed by the government.

“Furry” search samples.

Sonious’ article found “furry” results as a simple adjective, in reference to pets or objects (like blankets and animal-print furniture), or typos of the word Fury, but no connection to anthropomorphic fandom.

Sonious points out racist email sent to Epstein by a contact who hatefully compares children in the United Arab Emirates to furry animals. Good eye… the same was independently discussed among Dogpatch Press helpers:

Contents not remarked by Sonious included:

  • A normie commercial product shot of a tail buttplug (no context).
  • (Sorry, to underscore how serious this is): Redacted photos of Epstein in horrifying contact with extremely young prey, even girls who look 5.
  • Random WTF moments:

I’m searching the Epstein files, and randomly… jesus christ, Woody Allen

Actual page of recently released files.

There’s no actual furries. It’s rich, corrupt people being weird and evil. Doesn’t it make us look good by comparison? But keep reading, this has layers…

Fuel for the “evil media” narrative

Sonious’ article goes back to the early timeline of the Epstein coverup, where Vanity Fair magazine played a significant part. In 2003, Vanity Fair featured Epstein in a story where author Vicky Ward tried to report victim accusations, but it was censored by an editor under Epstein’s influence. Justice was denied by the editor hiding evil, instead of allowing Vicky Ward to serve the public good. Power and favor kept many people quiet for many years, enabling many more crimes.

Now compare a significant event for furries in 2001, when Vanity Fair published the sensationalized article Pleasures of the Fur. The bad look it gave us fueled grievance against the media that is still preached from high places in our community. It’s a central piece of a short canon of media sins that are mostly older than the average fan. Our creed: The Media is Out to Get Us.

Sonious contrasts the way Vanity Fair punched down at furries in 2001, with kissing up to Epstein in 2003. They went out of the way to smear ordinary fans, but censored abuse accusations at a pedophile elite. Even though we couldn’t see the private duplicity then, they gave us a black eye that we inked on as a permanent tattoo. Now we’re getting new perspective on the hypocrisy of it.

Watching the ongoing Epstein scandal with grievance makes it easier and easier to assume media malice — as folk wisdom and group indoctrination always expects — if you leave out developments after 2001.

How the Us vs. Them narrative fails to tell the full truth

Saying The Media is Out to Get Us assumes It Always Will Be. This narrative was set in stone while Vanity Fair ignored us for the next 15 years.

What was the next mention of furries in Vanity Fair?

In 2016, Vanity Fair published Disney Seems to Be Embracing Its Furry Fan Base. It featured furry screenings for Disney’s Zootopia and joined more good news that quoted Dogpatch Press, the organizer of a theater show for 200 members. It was treated as normal excitement, and that was a big change.

For a small grassroots project, it made a milestone for how fan organizing and reporting can pull notice and manifest how we want to be seen, instead of defensively hiding. Good news wasn’t solicited, it was the organic result of hard work to fill a theater for fun. It accomplished the mission here:

In 2016, there was a wide sea-change going on. Many quality stories were coming from outlets like Vice. Disney was cited as marketing to us with their furriest movie in a generation. We were capable of full-circle influence instead of just reacting.

In spite of this, group grievance stayed stuck in the past. In 2017 there was an announcement of filming at Washington’s first Anthro Northwest convention for This Is Life with Lisa Ling on CNN. Lisa Ling was dogpiled with hate on social media. The show came out as nice as could be, “a flat-out advocacy piece”, implying that it was made with apology by The Media for past judgement. Was it smart to try to make it worse?

This wasn’t simply a case of outsiders wanting to get in, it was partnership. Lisa Ling was welcomed to Anthro Northwest as part of replacing the doomed Rainfurrest convention. That was no easy task. Rainfurrest failed in a mess of bad behavior, and made bad credit for anyone trying to start again. That was OUR fault. (The only media for the last Rainfurrest was positive!) So, Anthro Northwest and The Media were repairing bad credit WE caused — which can always get worse by blaming others for it.

There are real hate agendas in play, but not from professionals cited here. The source of it is right-wing Republicans using Fox News and it’s ilk for demagogic grifting. They cook up conspiratorial hoaxes about furry litterboxes in schools to capitalize on the panic. It isn’t from traditional media, it’s from the swampiest sewers of the internet. The media consistently debunks these hoaxes in our service.

With these examples, how self-defeating is it to cling to us vs. them like it’s 2001?

Sonius’ meta-narrative about media power

Sonious’ article smartly highlights one narrative of media malice. That’s helpful for reinforcing group solidarity, and unhelpful by leaving out context above, where we aren’t just victims to the media, but also capable of manifesting what we want with them. Fandom can be both personal and professional.

Sonious’ article concludes under “Editorial decisions and their consequences”. Despite dwelling on its narrative, it comes back to crediting reporting for power to change history. On a different timeline, if Vanity Fair’s editor didn’t censor one reporter, Americans could have had a different president than Epstein’s friend Trump, if their powerful web of criminal influence was uncovered sooner. Reporters can do the job now, too.

Sonious sees the same power in us:

“We have had pieces in the past that covered problematic figures in the fandom… Other furry news sites also cover such stories… Such articles can cause frustration by those in the fandom as being “just drama” or that “it makes us look bad so it should not be published”. This event shows why the publications of such difficult things are important in spite of the fears that discussing them can cause blow-back.”

Digging into the files found no furries, but several layers about the media — and a cue to compare our own files of the same nature, and how they are handled. We can always make things worse by suppressing bad news from within, and when it happens, the solution may be outside professional help for public interest.

The real furry Epstein files

Abuse scandals happen with churches, schools, Boy Scouts, the top of society, and here too. Hidden abuser networks among us have been outed with few consequences, even with influential people involved. Complicit people can just change identities and go on enjoying community among us. We don’t have an Epstein using power to hide it, we have a vacuum of power.

Part of the problem is dependence on corporate platforms we don’t own. That goes with nobody wanting to own it. You’ll hear “we don’t know them”, while the “us vs them” narrative is aimed against inside reporting, both ignorantly and for coverup. The result is that nobody can hurt us more than we do to ourselves by letting injustice persist.

There’s so much unreported, and scattered across contained communities, that it might only change if professionals apply resources we don’t have. This can revise history about media. A careful eye can notice that the 2001 Vanity Fair story wasn’t entirely off base to cast suspicion. It has a character whose convention-running influence enables abusers to this day. Letting it go this long is nobody elses fault and more people should know.

In history yet to be told, the Rainfurrest debacle had strong geographic overlap with the abuser network featured in 2025 TV docuseries The Furry Detectives: Unmasking a Monster. Influential members are hiding there today.

The 2018 Zoosadist leaks were kind of the furry fandom’s own Epstein files, which still have many developments not seen by the public, and many more things that weren’t leaked. www.amcplus.com/shows/the-fu…

Being the media

The more we do it, the less outsiders can define us. It can start with defying the narrative of media malice, and the line between us vs them, where talking to them is considered betrayal.

This may bother believers in the narrative, which goes with expectations for vague, undefined objectivity. Objectivity is a fairytale that people claim to want without allowing to exist — because to them, The Media is simply a pejorative, and good doesn’t mean true, it means PR cheerleading. This definition of “good media” doesn’t actually mean truth. That’s helpful to know so you can throw out the whole concept.

A term for false objectivity is view from nowhere. Fandom is always from somewhere. Furry isn’t just a love for anthropomorphism (or it wouldn’t need another label), capital-F Furry has identity that you can pick out if you see it, because you’re in it. It comes from each other, so you can’t be inside and have an outside view at the same time. There’s no such thing as an objective fan. Objective fandom is an oxymoron.

This means crossing a line between reporting news, and being news, because of what fandom IS. Fandom is bias and that’s perfectly valid. You’re here for a reason, so own it. If you don’t like what the media is showing, do it for them, like by organizing a Zootopia screening in 2016, reporting it yourself, and having Vanity Fair quote it to show what you are. Avoiding them and wanting false objectivity is like playing peekaboo with a mirror. Don’t you know what you are?

The Epstein story doesn’t show that we’re inherently better than corrupt elites, but we can be, and here’s a different take on our part in it.

Epstein’s influence on radicalizing the world and how it harms furries — by guest Arrkay

The more files that come out, the more murky theories come out in reaction to coverup and injustice. Here’s a look from Arrkay, a Canadian video essayist for Furry Film Burrow, who chatted about hidden history hinted in the files:

“I feel like there’s a line we can draw that connects furry hate on SomethingAwful — with Epstein possibly influencing keeping /pol/ open on 4chan — to the global litterbox moral panic. While not directly related to furries, Epstein had some kind of hand in maintaining a culture of violence towards furries.

You can take my opinion with a grain of salt, I’ve only listened to a few podcast episodes about it. Epstein was a bit-player, just one piece of a larger network of sex-trafficking rich assholes who see poor people as sub-human.”

  • Behind the Bastards: How Jeffrey Epstein Helped Build the Modern World

“To summarize briefly and badly, Epstein met with 4chan founder m00t shortly after m00t took down /pol/ (the politics board), fulfilling his promise to remove the subforum if it ever “turned into stormfront”. Epstein met with him, then 2 days later /pol/ was reinstated. We don’t actually know for certain if Epstein was directly responsible for it, but the timing seems uncanny.”

“Epstein’s accomplice Ghislain Maxwell was a power-user of 4chan. Not directly related to furries, but maintaining the environment in which furries are a regular target of harassment — whether its afro-wigged weirdos holding up “yiff in hell furfags” signs at AC, or Milo attempting to round up Proud Boys to march on MFF. Though the emails show that Epstein did share porn of Adventure Time and FNAF characters if that’s furry-adjacent enough.”

Source

“Epstein liked to collect thinkers and professors, and even held symposiums on his child-sex island. He wanted to explore “dangerous ideas” to help shape the world with his money (ideas like “what if we did race-science” and “it should be ok for rich people to fuck 15 year olds”). He would funnel millions of dollars into universities like MIT, to fund professors he liked and divert funds from the humanities. Epstein was an early funder of Bitcoin. Epstein in his emails describes his ideal scenario of using trans women as sex slaves, dissolving the global order, and bringing back “tribalism” so that the elite can essentially become nobility and royalty again.

A few years later, a joke president is elected with the help of 4chan’s Pepe memes and crypto funds, after Gamergate raises Steve Bannon to be his strategist. “Pizzagate” makes it so that calling an elite a pedophile is an unserious joke, and Qanon creates an election fraud conspiracy that results in the January 6 Capitol riot.

I feel like a conspiracy brained weirdo with a wall of red string when I lay it out. There’s a lot of blanks to fill in with the Epstein emails, lots of gaps that are left up to our imagination and interpretation. (One thing is for certain is that Trump raped a 13 year old and is blowing up Iran to distract from it now…)

I don’t think it was intentional but we have felt and seen the after-effects, downstream, where furries are a natural target for radicalized channers. While I’m not surprised that there are no furries (or drag queens for that matter) in the Epstein emails, we shouldn’t ignore the influence he had over online and intellectual spaces that have historically been real assholes to furries. We’ll never know for sure, we only have a small window into a much stranger and darker world.”

– Arrkay

Severe ADHD Makes Her Fear Driving Lessons

Ask Papabear - Fri 13 Mar 2026 - 15:36
Hello, Papabear,

I am almost 30. I do not drive because I am too afraid to. Last time I tried was when I was freshly outta high school; yes, I took a driver's ed online course, thinking I was going to get my license in the summer but didn't. My dad was starting to teach me but totally traumatized me. Fast forward years later. After 6 years of college, I thought about trying again, but my self-esteem and doubt had gotten worse. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of supportive people in my life to cheer me on. I have bad undiagnosed ADHD--severe! I do not trust myself, all thanks to my dad's lifelong critiques and scoldings wanting everything to be perfect and "how I am supposed to know everything by now."

Unfortunately, my anxiety has gotten worse. I know driver's ed would be ideal, but what if I pay and chicken out and loose my money? We don't have a secondary car to practice with, only his. My mom doesn't drive because of her condition, but she believes in me in doing that and many other things, unlike my other parent.

Where/who can I go to to overcome my fears and see if it's all in my head and that driving isn't so bad? Because I understand it's a skill we adults need. How to lose this fear because it has caused deep depression and self-hate.

Thanks,
Scared California Girl (California)

* * *

Dear Scared California Girl,

Thank you for bringing this important question to my attention. Definitely, having ADHD, PTSD, or other anxiety issues can have a negative effect on one's ability to drive (a topic I do not see discussed much, interestingly enough). Indeed, if one is suffering from an inability to concentrate, distracted behavior, difficulty with multitasking, and other symptoms common with ADHD, driving can in some cases be nearly impossible.

You mention that your "bad ADHD" is undiagnosed, so I take that to mean you have not sought out therapy. Do you have any medical coverage? If so, many plans do cover at least a few visits to a licensed therapist. If not, I suggest you explore Covered California for plans that are made more affordable thanks to state assistance. Open enrollment is closed right now, but it is no longer federally mandated to have health insurance thanks to a 2019 law. But California does penalize those who are not covered by issuing a state fine, just FYI.

But on to driving.... There are also some driving schools that have instructors who are trained in teaching those with ADHD, including one called the Newport Driving School, which, I believe, has several schools across California and a few other states. They do not seem to have a central website, so I would google your local area to see if there is a Newport school near you. I talked to one of their representatives, and they did say that they have instructors who have special training in how to teach those with your condition. One thing to note, though, is that this driving course takes more time than the typical course because much more attention is given to students for them to be able to manage their driving skills better. If you can't find a Newport school, see what else is in your area that looks good, phone them, and ask if they have similarly trained instructors. As for your concerns about "chickening out," I hope that the knowledge that you would have a teacher who is skilled with ADHD students might alleviate that fear.

(Oh, and I sympathize with your dad dilemma. When I was learning, I had the misfortune of my dad trying to teach me--in addition to classes at my high school--and his method was to hit me when I did wrong. Ugh, what a nightmare. I would suggest not using your father as an instructor and find someone less critical and more understanding. No duh, am I right? Basically, anyone with a driver's license should be able to help you. Oh, and always start with lessons in an empty parking lot or other area with no traffic.)

What about your current transport needs? Does your father drive you to work or on errands? If you have a job, can you set up a ride share of some sort with coworkers. Do you have any friends to help? First order of business, though, is managing your ADHD. Indeed, we don't even know if it is ADHD or something related, so you really do need to get properly diagnosed and try to get some professional help because you cannot get proper treatment if you are not accurately diagnosed. Also, you don't say where in California you live, but if you are somewhere with good public transportation such as the Bay Area you should definitely take advantage of that as much as possible.

As for your mother, is she a senior? You say she has a condition that makes it impossible for her to drive. Okay, so, there are programs and services in California to help with that. Starting with medical transportation, should she require it, consult the California Department of Healthcare Services and the California Department on Aging for non-emergency medical transportation such as for regular doctor visits. You can also find help with transportation through California's Eldercare Locator. Other commercial services that are low cost or that can be partially paid for through insurance include ITN America and Veyo, and you can also search the Rides in Sight database for senior transportation companies. Pardon me if your mother is not old enough for such services yet; I'm just trying to cover bases. Now, if she is too young to qualify as a senior, there are still programs for those with disabilities or low income that can help. In my area, for example (I'm in California, too), the Riverside County Transportation Commission offers ride assistance to not only seniors but also those with disabilities. You might contact your local city or county office and query them if they have similar services. The federal government also has the Accessible Transportation Resource Center, which can point you to transportation and other services for the disabled. Finally, there is the 211 hotline (also 211 California | Free Help for Housing, Food & More) that is run by United Way of California, offering all kinds of assistance to those in need, including transportation. There is a possibility, too, that if you are diagnosed with such severe ADHD that you are unable to drive, some of the programs listed above might help you, as well.

I hope some of this information is helpful to you. Let me know if you have further questions.

Bear Hugs,

Papabear

Collector's Cove Review

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Thu 12 Mar 2026 - 08:51

The tagline of “cozy farming adventure on the high seas with an adorable animal companion” is enough to get me very intrigued by a game, and developer VoodooDuck had to know they had a great idea when designing Collector’s Cove, because that’s one heck of a premise. I’ve spent quite a few nights now enjoying the lapping waves on my boat as I fished for new surprising catches, sprouted tons of fun crops, and outfitted my animal-carried boat with a productive set of machinery, trees, storage boxes galore, and lots more. That’s before even mentioning the new friendly merchants I met that are definitely not all the same person with different clothing. Truly, Collector’s Cove was like a pleasant bedtime tea; not overly in-your-face, and nothing too extravagant, but hits the right spot when you want exactly what it provides.

VOTE NOW for the Ursa Major Awards to recognize 2025’s best anthropomorphic media

Dogpatch Press - Tue 10 Mar 2026 - 21:13

Ursa art by Foxenawolf.

Ursa Major Awards voting deadline is MARCH 23

The Ursa Major Awards feature the furry fandom’s favorite media published in the past year. Anyone in the community is welcome to vote for movies, short films, series, novels, short fiction, nonfiction, comics, games, websites, magazines, illustrations, music, and more…

You only have until March 23 so go to the voting page and do it now!

For nonfiction, please consider The Furry Detectives: Unmasking a Monster. This TV docuseries is a result of 7 years of investigation here. The show won critical acclaim and positive reporting from TimeYahoo Entertainment, and more, for putting an honest spotlight on problem-solving by and for the community. It’s very unusual to have true crime documentary on the list, which is already an accomplishment after attempts to suppress uncomfortable truth. It’s a sign of caring about justice and putting priority on voiceless victims above selective PR. And for those ready to experience intense storytelling it is excellent media.

After you vote, follow the Ursas on Bluesky and consider giving even more support. The awards are organized by a small team of devoted volunteers (the ALAA) and there is a cost to maintain their work – you can donate to support them here:

Ebay has a $16,000 shirt from Confurence Zero, and we have questions for the seller

Dogpatch Press - Tue 10 Mar 2026 - 17:39

This shirt is one of a kind and 16 grand. If it sells, the seller will have 17 kittens.

Vintage graphic t-shirts from the 1960’s-90’s routinely sell for hundreds or a few thousand dollars. Old fans might want to check their closets, because Ebay has some with furry graphics, like a $300 Cutey Bunny shirt from 1983. Then there’s this eye-poppingly iconic treasure:

Ultra Rare ConFurence Zero Event Shirt! Furry Convention Shirt!

This is an extremely rare event shirt for what was the World’s first Furry convention. It was Hosted in a venue in Costa Mesa, California in January 21-22 of 1989, and only 65 people attended. The event itself was more of a pre-convention, to see if anyone was interested in attending such events. As a result of being the world’s first exclusive Furry con, and with such low attendance, any sort of merch from the event is incredibly rare.

The $16,000 price is on par with the most expensive t-shirts ever sold. A previous record was set by vintage shirts for the Grateful Dead that sold for $15-18,000. It’s hard to think of what to compare this furry grail to. The Shroud of Turin? Putting this enchanted shirt on your body could feasibly transform you into your fursona in real life. It seems like one of the most formidable furry artifacts you could possibly own, next to the first known fursuit at a furry convention — the sexy Bambioid fursuit worn by Robert Hill at Confurence Zero.

Is the price insane? Or could there be a suspiciously wealthy furry who would rather set their money on fire than lack this treasure in their dragon hoard?

Ebay seller Akumaskill has nothing but this shirt for sale (but he is legitimate, with 100% positive ratings since 2008.) Dogpatch Press reached out to learn more.

(Dogpatch) What’s the story of the shirt? Cleaning out your closet? Gotten any offers?

Hi there. Story is in the description. This is the real deal. Yes, I have gotten offers.

It’s a rare and interesting item and people might like to know more! How about a quick intro about you, and what interesting things do you collect or have?

I used to be a security guard for a flea market in Los Feliz, CA. I’ve been a vintage collector since 2007 and usually collect tshirts and Vinyl LPs. While working at the Los Feliz flea market, I got to know and befriend a lot of the vendors who were young sellers of vintage clothing. I would show them pictures of shirts from my collection, and they would come to me for help identifying vintage pieces they had just picked up or traded for, so I got to be a part of that community even after I officially stopped working there as their security guard.

Can you say how you came to own this iconic shirt, and more about the history of it?

A little over 2 years ago I decided to visit some friends selling at the flea market, and while I was shopping around, I came to a booth of a young man and he had several shirts that had furry art on them. I liked the art, so I ended up buying all the shirts he had, and he was very happy to have made the sale. Only afterwards when I met up with my friends did I notice that some of these shirts were true vintage, and I noticed the year printed on the Conference Zero shirt. I couldn’t believe that it was from 1989. I had another shirt from a convention in San Francisco that had a cute skunk girl from Pal Con 1991. Also had another Confurence 9 shirt from 1998. I just thought they were cool shirts and that’s solely the reason why I bought them. One of my friends immediately offered to buy the lot from me for 100$, but I politely declined because now I was interested in finding the history of these shirts.

Through my research I discovered who the Artist was (Steve Martin) and that the fursona was an original character that one of the founders of Confurence had created in the mid to late 80’s, based off a weasel like mammal called the Marten*, so maybe he got a kick out of his friend Martin drawing Marten. The original pamphlet handed out at the con also features the art on the shirt, and this shirt has the dates of the convention on it. Plus I have researched the tag on the shirt and it is period appropriate.

I would love to do my own Q&A with the original artist, Steve Martin, but I read that he is a very private individual. He is one of the legendary founders of the furry community.

Do you have a reason to sell now, and what sort of interest is it getting?

In terms of offers, I have gotten a handful of offers in the low hundreds for it, but I do constantly get messages of people interested in the shirt and how I authenticated it, asking where I got it from. I have a guy that has begged me to put the shirt for sale as an auction about 6 times. Either way, as I am primarily a collector that’s in it for the love of the game, I have no worries if this shirt sells or not. I’m very quite content being the owner of it. I’ve grown fond of the cute art. If there comes about a furry museum or something, I wouldn’t mind having it curated there.

– akumaskill

The value of pricelessness.

Counterfeiting and forging collector-bait is a lucrative scam. It’s funny when memorabilia shows up with carefully aged looks but a claimed signature by someone who was already dead when the piece came out. So, is this shirt really real and recognized by the people who made it back then?

Dogpatch Press reached out for verification from archivists of Confurence.com who represent the founders. At first they were confused if shirts were ever made from this design. They checked old VHS footage, and saw that indeed, a few people were wearing shirts with this design at Confurence Zero in 1989.

The shirt would be a great fit for a museum. It’s an idea that has been raised many times like with past stories about a Furry Hall of Fame (2008), Furry Walk of Fame (2013), If there was a Museum of Furry, theatrical “Panto-Animals” would be a major exhibit and What will the National Mascot Hall of Fame mean for furries? (2015) Too bad that furries don’t have a credible or supportable museum yet.

Imagine buying and wearing this at a convention now. Who goes to a furry convention in a garment worth over 4 figures… oh wait…

A fursuit isn’t comparable to a printed shirt, with all the custom artist labor to make one, but think harder about the pricelessness of an icon. If the most valuable creation of furry fandom is its network of conventions, this singular shirt represents the origin of it all. Of course it’s worth $16,000 if someone is willing to pay that. Until then, it remains a lucky find of one collector who doesn’t care if it sells, and not a corporate asset. If he started with money in mind, it seems to have inspired personal interest in fandom. Isn’t that the spirit of what we’re here for?

Update. A second shirt owned by Confurence founder Mark Merlino (RIP) may exist. Blessed holy relic!

Rodney’s apparently dissolved over the years from washing machine and we think we still have Mark’s around here.

Squad up as Raccoons in 'Trash Day'

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Tue 10 Mar 2026 - 14:50

Multiplayer games filled with creative ways to enjoy chaos together are having a big moment recently, and we’re all for it! Entering the fray is “Trash Day”, a game that has you teaming up with your buddies to form a raccoon squad in a physics-based co-op adventure. Scavenge trash, fill your shopping cart, and work together to get back home. Hijinks and accidental (purposeful?) craziness is sure to follow as you and your furry friends feverishly fetch “valuable” loot amidst a barrage of human and other animal interference. You’ll have to cross various obstacles with your trusty shopping cart, all in an attempt to complete the campaign, which sorta reminds us of “RV There Yet?” another fantastic entry in the genre from earlier this year. We’re partial to being able to be raccoons with a buggy though, we must admit.

🦝 About Trash Day🦝
  • Online 4-player co-op adventure
  • Physics-driven chaos (things will go wrong)
  • Steal, scrounge, and scavenge anything not nailed down
  • Built for shouting at your friends

TMNT Meets MtG!

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Tue 10 Mar 2026 - 11:45

Turtle Power! How many of you remember the TMNT fondly from your youth? I know I do. I personally grew up with the 2003 series and it still holds a special place in my heart. But I’ve grown to love other versions of the Turtles over the years as well. Long time readers will know this isn’t the first time the Turtles made headlines on GF. My colleague reviewed Shredder’s Revenge a little over a year ago. So when I heard they would be coming to one of my favorite card games, you can bet your kunai I was excited and honestly? They’re pretty fun to play with.

Croak Preview: A Hopping Good Time

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Mon 2 Mar 2026 - 10:14

Platformers are a curious breed. Ever since the days of Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, they’ve remained popular. Yet being innovative and different can be a little difficult to accomplish at times. Fortunately Croak, the upcoming bouncy 2D platformer from WoodRunner Games doesn’t have such difficulties. In a Steam Next Fest, it takes a lot to really stand out and after playing the demo, I can see why it caught the eye of my fellow staff members. This game is a gem in the making and will be well worth checking out when it fully releases.
