The latest anthology from editor Fred Patten, The Furry Future, features 19 furry-themed science fiction stories (or science-fiction-themed furry stories, your call), with at least 15 of those stories coming from FWG members.

FurPlanet’s anthology Five Fortunes (also edited by Fred Patten, and featuring novellas from several members) is now available as an ebook from Bad Dog Books, and you can read FWG member Dronon’s review of it here at Claw & Quill. In other review news, you can now find Fred Patten’s reviews posted at Dogpatch Press.

Eduardo Soliz has just released Con Fluff 3: Nine Charming Furry Short Stories, his third collection of “furry super-short conbook stories”.

Patrick “Bahumat” Rochefort’s From Winter’s Ashes continues with Chapter 1.1 and Chapter 1.2 now posted.

Some of our associate members have been busy too — Jay launched a new blog, and Weasel has a new book review blog himself, along with another story in the literary magazine Earth Is Huge And We Are All On It.

Just opened: From Weasel Press, a furry anthology called Typewriter Emergencies, looking for “dark and existential fiction focusing around the theme of ‘These Things Shall Pass/It’s a mad world out there.'” Deadline is May 1, and full details are here.

Guild News

The links to the 2015 Member Feedback Survey were sent out to all FWG members in an email dated January 30. If it’s not in your inbox (or your spam folder), please see this thread in the member forums for links to the 2-part survey. Both parts close on March 2, so please don’t wait to get your responses in.

We had a successful meet and greet at Further Confusion in January — you can check out the notes from that meet in this forum thread. (Thanks again to Daniel for taking all those notes, and to all those who hosted and attended, whether at the con or virtually via the shoutbox.)

Right, well, I'll start then.

I picked my sona because of my decent. German and Irish. My hat is basically the "sparkle dog" trait I allowed myself to have and it seems to always be everyones favorite part.

Now, what about everyone else? I know /u/Sareii has done this plenty, which is understandable considering how fantastic their sona is.

Welcome to our front porch on the Internet! We’re glad to have you as our guests. Have a seat on the bench and enjoy the conversations. This was Rod’s idea, but I agreed to participate because one thing I enjoy doing is talking about the furry community (or the furry fandom, as Rod prefers). Either way, we’ve been around since the beginning. We started out living in caves, enjoying the charcoal drawing on the wall, made by our contemporaries, hanging out around the fire and listening /telling stories, and even joining in on the tribal dances.

Seriously, we aren’t THAT old, but we have been involved for a long time in what became the fantastic phenomenon known as furry. We invite you to listen to our stories, laugh and learn about the interest and the family, and maybe join in the dialog. I the future we hope to include interviews with other experienced fans and creators, people that everyone in the fandom may not be aware of, but should be.

Let us get comfortable in our rocking chairs, and begin…

Recently your humble ed-otter and his mate, Sy Sable, put up on YouTube a recording of the presentation they did at Further Confusion 2014 (in San Jose, California) celebrating 25 years of furry fandom conventions. That’s right, 25 years ago (well, 26 now!) in January of 1989 the very first furry-themed fan convention and seminar, ConFurence Zero, took place at a little Holiday Inn located in Costa Mesa, California, with a membership of just under 100 and an actual attendance of 65. At Further Confusion last year the co-directors of the original run of ConFurence (Mark and Rodney, sable and mink) lead a well-attended discussion about the early furry cons, how ConFurence came about, and where they’ve been since then. Afterwards, Changa Lion (of Furry.Today) went about creating a slide show and video sampler to go along with the recording of the discussion — and now, it’s available up on YouTube. Have a look — and learn some furry history.

Hey guys!

I've always been into the furry fandom especially during high school, but I kind of stopped after I figured that no one around me really shared the same interest. I'm currently in college studying graphic design and illustration and the furry fandom was a huge part of my life that got me into art, so I'm really grateful for that. I've joined FA recently but I really don't know how to interact with people there so it's been kinda meh.

 

My sona is a weirdass tall annoying dog/jackal/whatever. Call me splotch, sploggs or sploggles, whichever works! I kinda made him up on the spot as a joke but he really grew on me. I'm working on a reference sheet but I can't get his awkward body right zz.

I kinda dropped drawing furries back in 10th grade due to finding out the stereotypes of the fandom and kinda felt embarrassed about it due to having no one around me with similar interests, but I recently started picking it up again. It's something that I really enjoy drawing and drawing things that I enjoy really helps me improve a lot so I believe I'm making the right choice (also, lurking around furry art and not drawing any of my own gets irritating heh).

 

Currently, I still don't know anyone personally in the furry fandom and I think that I'm over the threshold where it's easier for me to make friends since I tend to overthink everything now, but I'm still hoping to meet new people and actually have someone to talk about furry shz. It's kind of sad drawing things that I really can't share with any of my friends actually, haha. I guess I'm pretty friendly though (I swear swear a whole fucking lot).

 

That pretty much covers it. Right now, I'm doing freebies in hopes of getting enough experience in order to hopefully take commissions in the future. I'm all up for trades, but if you just want to request that's perfectly fine with me!

I would prefer the reference to be posted on my FA journal for convenience's sake, but whatever floats your boat! (also some people might not have an FA so yeah). I can't promise that these will come out quickly since I'm juggling school work and there's no particular order, but I really like having a queue so I can just hop in and pick something to work on. There's also no order really since I just go with the flow with my personal bias so yeahhhh.

 

andd I don't really know what else to say right now, heh. I just really want to get myself more into the fandom that I absolutely love. I enjoy all parts of it!

Oh yeah my roomates/housemates constantly rip on furries, but little do they know there's one lurking among them, so that's kind of funny.
