Furaffinity down?

Furry Reddit - Wed 15 Oct 2014 - 01:49

Is anyone else having their connections time out? I've tried pinging, and that times out as well, so it's not chrome.

All the Moomins of Our Lives

In-Fur-Nation - Wed 15 Oct 2014 - 01:34

During World War II, Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson determined that she wanted to create something that would help to make people happy — which, needless to say, was in short supply at the time. But all accounts she succeeded wonderfully. For more than 60 years after they debuted in the London Evening News her creations, the Moomin Trolls, have delighted audience the world over — entertaining children with their colorful adventures, and adults with their sly commentaries on society and family life. Now to celebrate the late Tove Jansson’s 100 birthday Drawn & Quarterly have brought together more than 400 pages of her full-color work in a new hard-bound slip-covered collection, the Moomin Deluxe Anniversary Edition. Find out more at D & Q’s preview web site for the book.

Photomorphs and the Uncanny Valley. Is it avoidable?

Furry Reddit - Wed 15 Oct 2014 - 00:12

I've noticed a generally cold reception towards photomorphs within the Furry/Anthro communities. The general consensus is that they fall into the depths of the uncanny valley. My preferred medium is photomanipulation, so I'm trying to figure out whether it's at all possible to avoid the uncanny valley.

To provide some background, I believe the base of my image really dictates how I categorise my work, and I always start off with a human model with the aim to make them more animalistic. The result is that I see my work and thus every other photomanip that starts off with a human base, as being zoomorphic (humans with animal characteristics) instead of being anthropomorphic (animals with human characteristics).

I don't know if it's the realism that makes it creepy or whether its just a difference in preference of appearance and/or anatomy (striking the right balance between being more animalistic or more human). Determining the right balance of anatomy and appearance is subjective and differs from one person to the next. Should there be human hair? Should the eyes be human or animal? Should the muzzle be present? Are human hands acceptable, etc.

Regarding balance, where does the uncanny valley begin and end? Insights into what factors make certain photomorphs uncanny would be greatly appreciated!

-- Animal end of the scale --

-- Human end of the scale --

[Edit] Further to the above, do you think that realistic drawn or painted art suffers from the same levels of uncanniness, if not, why do you think that is?

Artist Amuzoreh is open for commissions!

Furry Reddit - Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 23:54

My favorite artist just opened commissions. He has great prices and beautiful art. Always for pretty cheap. Don't be fooled by the crayon color. It's about the same quality as his shaded work. And trust me when I say the sheet doesn't do justice to his latest work. Please give his gallery a look (he uses inkbunny more) and go help him out! NSFW galleries below.

Building a Writing Profile. Free Stories Inside!

Furry Reddit - Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 22:49

Hi there folks. I'm trying to build up a set of writing samples, to use as examples for longer commissions. To that end, I'm taking a few short story requests. NSFW is given preference, as that is the audience I'd be aiming for, but anything goes. If you have image references for characters, or a small description of personality and appearance traits, it'd be appreciated.

An undeniable update

Furry Reddit - Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 21:45

Well, here comes a pretty bad update.

So you may be wondering why I was haven't drawn anymore Kneonn J comics since last month.(If you don't know what Kneonn J is, here one of the strips:http://rayleeman.deviantart.com/art/Kneonn-J-The-comic-4-481151141) Well, two words: Writing block. Yes, apparently, I couldn't think of ideas for my comic, and I was busy with some other personal things as well. Also, my co-writer will be absent for who knows how long it will be because of his depression. So now, I was pretty stumped with my comic and all.

So I decided to go on a little hiatus until I came up with an idea, and I apologize that I haven't told anyone earlier. But with Halloween around the corner, I feel like I may have an idea for my next comic. Plus, I'm also planning on making a new webcomic which will be released by next month, hopefully. So, I guess this update was rather short, but whatever. That's all for today, ladies and gents. Have a nice life.

P.S. If you don't care about this thread, then don't read it at all! Waste your time bothering people somewhere else.

Breaking the species norm?

Furry Reddit - Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 20:48

Hey furries! This is one thing I am very curious aboutfor a while. First off, I'm an 18 y/o female, and I am kind of a lurker in the furry fandom. I'm slowly gaining more knowledge about this intriguing hobby.

Now what I would really like to know is if it's okay to have a fursona that is non-typical as a fox, for example. Also, I hear people say that Dogs are really hyper and all over the place. What if I want to be a more laid back dog? Is this a big no-no in the fandom? Would I be judged for not having common species attributes? Would people get confused if I were to be fursuiting?

Also, forgive my noobiness for any missused terms and the like. Please be as detailed as possible when explaining! I crave knowledge! I haven't really chose my fursona yet so I want to know if I would be stepping any boundaries if I were to do this. I have no clue at this point, so please don't take anything I say negatively. I hope you can help!

Had a little something that's bugging me...

Furry Reddit - Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 20:42

Hey guys. I've been a fur for quite a while now, and I love a lot of the art that has come out of the community. The only thing in the community I don't exactly enjoy is... well fursuits. A lot of people seem to love them, but I've had an intense hatred of mascot costumes since I was a child. I don't have a problem with people wearing them, but it makes me uncomfortable to an extent when I see one. I was wondering if any other furs fealt this way, or am I the only person who's a little more distanced from that area?

Rg. I finally decided to go to my first furcon, and the hotels and tickets are sold out.

Furry Reddit - Tue 14 Oct 2014 - 19:51

Decided to finally go to a furcon - Furpocalypse. But the hotel is fully booked and pre-reg tickets sold out. Luckily, I live just barely (um...bearly) in driving distance...so I'll hope there are tickets available at the door.

I'm nervous.
