Before we go anywhere, here's a sample of my artwork.

So to start I have to address the most common mistake and best tip that any new artist needs to know.

Draw.

Every.

Day.

I can't even begin to tell you how much this helps. I went from this to this in a matter of weeks.

But I know it can be hard sometimes. It gets boring or life gets in the way, but always find time to make out one rough sketch a day, and to show my belief in this, I will be doing a simple sketch of any character you can adequately describe.

But wait there's more! If you just tell me about your character that's fine, I'll probably end up doing a half bust or smaller, but if you follow This guide and post your results, I'll do at least a full body refined sketch, and if I like it i'll even include the name! It's as simple as that, but I implore you, make the head take up at least a fourth of a sheet of paper. Practicing with details makes all the difference in the world.

I'll probably start drawing around 11:00 or so (9:00 here now), so please think up some neat characters I can practice with! See you soon :)

A while ago, the mods here were asking how they can improve /r/furry. Among the comments, I suggested having a sticky post at the top whenever a convention is in session for live updates and other discussion. There's so many cons throughout the year, this would be a great way to keep people in the loop and bring them together. Reddit just announced a Reddit Live feature that seems to be another way to cover this. What do you guys think?

hai there, ive been learning to draw for about a month now but cant seem to have a good starting point. Any tips on how to draw a head or body? i have a couple of books on it but i wanted to hear some of your advice. Thanks!

If you’re not familiar with Larry Niven, you should be. For one thing he was Guest of Honor at Further Confusion once — largely for his creation of the brutal tiger-like aliens known as the Kzin. In 1970 his novel Ringworld received both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for Best Novel. Now, many years later, Tor Books is creating a series of black & white manga-style graphic novel adaptations of the book. “Two-hundred-year-old human Louis Wu is recruited by a two-headed alien named Nessus to join him, a felinoid warrior alien named Speaker-to-Animals, and the infinitely lucky human Teela Brown to explore an alien artifact. They find a Ringworld, a ribbon millions of miles long built around a distant sun. The civilization has fallen into savagery, though, and after crashing into the Ringworld, Louis must come up with a clever plan to get back to known space, hundreds of light years away.” Adapted by Robert Mandell (script) and Sean Lam (illustration), Part 1 is available now in paperback at Amazon.
