Here Comes Super Dinosaur!

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 15 Feb 2011 - 02:59

This April the creative team behind The Astounding Wolf Man, writer Robert Kirkman and artist Jason Howard, return with a brand-new full-color comic book series for Image Comics called Super Dinosaur.  Mr. Kirkman refers to the series as “a Pixar movie on paper”, which is sort of a clue that the violence quotient will likely be much lower than in their previous comic series. The story goes like this: The evil Max Maximus wants to rule Inner Earth, home of the last remaining dinosaurs (who have become largely anthropomorphic). Standing in his way is a 10-year-old human boy and his best friend, a 9-foot tall T-Rex in a suit of battle armor.  Meet Derek Dynamo and Super Dinosaur!

How to Eat Fried Furries

Furry News Network - Tue 15 Feb 2011 - 00:13

Bionic Cow Pope

I wasn’t sure what the intentions were when I read the title of the book.  It kind of stunned me.  I then pulled the book up on the web to get a look at the cover.  Another stunner.  The author, Nicole Cushing, put pen to paper and wrote a short book about raising furries as a food source.

Doing some research, I’ve found both positive and negative reviews on the book, as well as a few WTF reviews.  There is very little I can find within the Furry community about this book, or even if many are aware of it, outside of a short post on Furtopia about it, the thread started by the author herself.

For the time being, I’ve added it to my queue at Amazon and will be ordering in the next 2 weeks.  I’ll reserve final judgement till after I read it.

In the mean time, you can take a look at some of the reviews found at Amazon (below) and you can take a look at her blog – http://nicolecushing.wordpress.com/.  She was apparently running a contest to see if she can clear Amazon’s inventory of books.  Apparently no one bothered.

As always, your feedback is welcomed.

Update: 2-15-2011

This just in from Nicole Cushing’s Web Site. There were winners, and the Bionic Cow Pope spoke and sent a personalized greeting to 2 of her followers.

Furries--you know, people in animal costumes. You may love them. You may hate them. But chances are, you have not considered eating them...until now! Not since the early days of Monty Python has dark satire so subversive reared its ugly head! From the Hellmouth of the Heartland, Nicole Cushing brings you How To Eat Fried Furries--your guide on how to raise furries as livestock and cook `em up tender and tasty. The cast of characters is as motley and grotesque as one would imagine given such a premise. There's the misshapen, proto-furry cast of the '70s action-adventure show, Ferret Force Five. Extraterrestrial Squirrels. The Amish and the even more despicable Pseudo-Amish. Whether an avid Bizarro fan or a newcomer to this wave of weird fiction, you're bound to be satisfied once you take a bite out of How To Eat Fried Furries. Get Shareaholic Link to this post!

Upcoming furry comics for April 2011 (Previews only)

Furry News Network - Mon 14 Feb 2011 - 22:53

Author: Treesong

Quite a lot of material this month in addition to the usual; in particular, two impressive hardbacks from Fantagraphics and a new volume of Dungeon from NBM. Also the zombie glut is worse than ever, and an unusual number of manga series come to an end. Most were short-lived compared to Sgt. Frog’s 21 volumes, but Hikaru no Go (non-anthro) ends at 23.

Let Your FurFlag Fly in New City of Heroes Pack

Weasel Wordsmith - Mon 14 Feb 2011 - 16:18

After the popularity of the animal based designs in Sony’s new MMO, DC Universe Online, it’s not surprising to find that NCSoft is also letting gamers explore their furry side with the new City of Heroes Animal Pack available February 23.

The pack includes 60 mix-and-match costume pieces, covering Feline, Avian, Minotaur, and Wolf designs. Based on screens and art, the felines and avians include multiple species.

New emotes allow you to not only hiss, but sniff at other players. We don’t suppose “scritch” or “yiff” are included as actions.

There are other new features like additional auras and a Beast Run Travel Power.

And did we mention a Three Wolf Howl t-shirt featuring some buff and busty anthro wolves? Yeah, your furry superhero can pretend to wear shirts ironically while secretly loving them.

The City of Heroes Animal Pack will be available from the NCSoft Story for £5.99 or EUR 8.99.

Counterfeit Lugaru has been removed from the App Store

Furry News Network - Mon 14 Feb 2011 - 10:32

Noted on the Wolfire.com Blog -

By Jeffrey Rosen, Wolfire.com on February 10th, 2011

After selling for over a week and reaching #60 on the Mac games chart, the counterfeit Lugaru is no longer on the Mac App Store.

We’re not sure who took it down, or what will happen to the customers who were tricked into buying the fake copy, or the money they paid for it. We still haven’t heard anything from Apple.

We don’t think that the customers should be punished for buying the fake version — they probably just assumed that all the games in the App Store are legitimate. We would have assumed the same thing until last week! If you accidentally purchased the fake Lugaru, you can forward your receipt to contact@wolfire.com and we will give you an authentic version of Lugaru HD, as well as a bonus Steam key for your trouble.

WE3 Return. Run!

In-Fur-Nation - Sun 13 Feb 2011 - 02:46

WE3 was a well-known and well-received 3-issue comic book miniseries written by Grant Morrison (Animal Man) and illustrated by Frank Quitely (New X-Men). This full-color comic was first published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint in 2004, and was first gathered together as a trade paperback graphic novel in 2005. Now, the graphic novel version returns, again published by Vertigo. This time it’s a brand-new hardcover edition, featuring new story pages by the creators. It’s scheduled for release this coming June 15th. The story of WE3 follows three stray animals — a dog, a cat, and a rabbit — who are captured by a secret military organization and transformed into cybernetic weapon-animals. Now they have limited speech, they are covered in body-armor, and they are armed to the teeth with deadly weapons. When they learn they are to be decommissioned, they make a break for freedom — pursued not only by the military, but by other cybernetic animals. Interestingly, the WE3 entry on Wikipedia mentions that in 2006 WE3 was optioned for development as a CGI film by New Line Cinema. Then came the word (in late 2008) that New Line was no longer involved in the project, but that John Stevenson (co-director of Kung Fu Panda) was now attached to the film as director.

Early atrocity tourism website Portal of Evil closes

Furry News Network - Sat 12 Feb 2011 - 21:54

Author: crossaffliction

Portal of Evil (PoE) closed down last week after over a decade of “atrocity tourism”.

The site – founded in late 1999 by Cleveland, Ohio-based duo K. Thor Jensen and Chet Faliszek – was a directory of “weird, unusual and evil” websites, each discussed and mocked in turn by PoE forum members. Numerous furry sites were featured, including the website of 2 the Ranting Gryphon (who devoted a rant to PoE), Cub Central, and webcomics such as Sabrina Online.
