I've been looking into fursuiting for a few years now, but it's just recently that I became of legal age and earned enough to afford one with the job I have.

I hear people say you can do what you like with your money as long as its responsible, and it sounds like it applies if you've earned your own money to spend on whatever is desired, or required. I'm saving up so I'll have some cushioning when I move out on my own someday too. Still.

They're pretty chill about animal costumes as long as I'm not using it to commit a crime of some sort. They also approve of me using one for Halloween to amuse the neighbors. Of course, I doubt they'd expect me to possibly drop hard-earned money on a potentially pricey fursuit due to its high quality, and other expenses.

How would I bring up purchasing a (pricey) fursuit with my own money, and also using said costume for more than just a Halloween party (conventions, furmeets, etc.)?

I will confirm that I have my own bank account as well as a separate one with the moving out funds where I put in some every time I get a paycheck (and I have an initial deposit to begin with). I'll definitely be more prudent in my spending if I do aim for a suit, and do what I can to make up for the losses. I'm not in a rush to move out yet, but when I'm at an age where it'd be a bit unusual to still be with the parents, I'd hope to establish myself and be financially fit by then.

Looking at the points, I see there's an ongoing struggle between hobby, and holding off. Sure, holding off sounds less than appealing, but then again, you have a point about how it can be more effective than spending excess cash. Hmm.

I am starting the work to make my first ever fursuit, and I am so pumped! I picked a very fortunate time to start on it, as the fabric shop I purchased my fur from had it on sale for 50% off, and the foam I needed for 25% off! So now I can be able to finally work on it, and not spend nearly as much as I had anticipated!

I just feel extremely happy to be able to actually be starting work on it!

So I commissioned an artist for a one dollar lineart thing they were doing. They did it, but then revealed they couldn't save it since their trial of sai expired and they didn't have the full version. Luckily I hadn't paid yet. They said they will screenshot it and crop out everything else, leaving me with a super low res photo. I told them to get day, then redraw the image and save properly, which they don't want to do after they got sai from someone else. So I'm going to have to pay them to do another picture the right way. My question is If I should pay for the first picture, which I'm really not wanting to do.

*Edit * also can we not go on about the quality of this art wise. They are a decent artist, although unprofessional. No need to go on about this being what I should have expected.

Woke up early, left home late, got nauseous driving to work in the next town over (Chico) and locked myself out of my car, it's raining and I feel like a drowned rat (er, raccoon)...silver lining? I go back home and reschedule work for Thursday and roadside assistance got me back in the car.

I've heard great things about you. I am relatively new to the fandom and my friends don't know that. These friends of mine really dislike furries as a whole yet they know nothing about them. I was wondering if you had any tips on how I can convince them that furries aren't bad and something they shouldn't hate without giving away that I am a furry. Thank you for your time.

Dear Someone,
 
As with any type of prejudice, hatred of furries is born of ignorance on the part of the hater. (As you might have heard, I’m working on a book to help correct this ignorance, but it’s been delayed because I’ve had to finish the book Yogi was working on when he passed away). Therefore, the best way to convince someone that furries are nice people is to introduce them to furries and have them get to know furries as people. If your only impression of someone is what you see on TV or on the Internet, you’re going to get the wrong idea. Why? Well, because the media thrives on getting people upset and fearful; the more controversy they stir up the more people watch their broadcasts and websites.

As you said, your friends know nothing about furries. You can talk to them until you’re blue in the face, but unless they get to know us you aren’t going to change their minds. See if you can take your friends to a furry meet, or even a furcon. They’ll discover we’re very nice, creative, and fun people.
How do you do this without telling them you’re a furry? Well, if you’re too embarrassed to admit you’re a furry, then that’s something you should perhaps work on first for yourself before you go trying to convince your friends about us. Your friends would have to be awfully dumb not to figure out you’re a furry if you are spending lots of time trying to convince them the fandom is great.

Remember, real friends will like you for you. If they don’t, they aren’t real friends and you’re better off without them. This is a difficult lesson for any teenager to learn because we’re so desperate at that age to “fit in,” but it’s one worth learning.
