The Boston Globe is carrying an AP story about an experiment where rats, injected with a special virus that goes to muscle tissue and causes a rapid growth of muscle cells. No word on when we'll see a giant rat destroying Tokyo, though.
I wonder if something similar to this technique could be adapted to help counteract or prevent the long-term muscle wasting of extended micro-gravity exposure. As during a mission to Mars, for example, or a long term stay on a space station.
