This is an expensive month for me--I'm buying two books priced over $20 from the list below. But there are plenty of the cheaper pamphlet comics, too. Just look:

A FINE LINE
PAGE 220
APR073304F Afterdead Collection Color Edition, vol. 1 sc, 7"x10", 330pg, 64 color $29.95
by Donna Barr
The Desert Peach, Stinz, and others in the afterlife. Stinz is one of the first indy anthro series I ever got into, in the pages of Ed Pegg's _Centaurs Gatherum_, so I think this belongs here even if the Peach predominates. DP ##31-32 are reprinted here, among other things. Recommended sight unseen.

BALLANTINE BOOKS
PAGE 247
APR073468F Flight #4 sc, 6"x9", 352pg, color $24.95
edited by Kazu Kibuishi
I didn't like volume 3 as much as the previous two; less fantasy (including anthros) and more realism and biography. Still worth the price. I think I'll like volume 4 more, judging from the 57 pages of previews, from every story in the book, at http://www.newsarama.com/Flight/v4Mar07/preview/Flightgallery.html . See also http://www.flightcomics.com/ . Recommended.

FANTAGRAPHICS
PAGE 295
APR073688F Castle Waiting #2.7 32pg, b&w $3.95
by Linda Medley
For some reason, I seem to remember to list only the odd-numbered issues of this excellent comic, one of the few black-and-white ones I list these days. 'In this issue: Rackham [a storkmorph] searches for a missing shovel and ends up arguing with Chess [a horsemorph] about the finer points of the "manly arts"; Flora the Goat is fed up with being penned up; and Tolly finishes opening the secret passageway...with disastrous results!' Always recommended.

GEMSTONE PUBLISHING (http://www.gemstonepub.com)
PAGES 300-304
APR073715E Uncle Scrooge #367 sc, 64pg, color $7.50
by Barks, Rosa, Milton, & Jensen
Four stories, including Carl Barks' 'The Golden River'.

APR073716E Uncle Scrooge Adventures: Land of the Pygmy Indians & The War of Wendigo sc, 64pg, color $8.50
by Carl Barks & Don Rosa
'It's the first in a new series of Gemstone trade paperbacks--pairing Carl Barks' Scrooge classics with Don Rosa's modern-day sequels! This time "Land of the Pygmy Indians" is teamed with its follow-up, "War of the Wendigo"!' The first of these is one of my favorite Barks stories. I remember that the first time I saw Burmese, I thought it looked like the bubble-talk the Peewegahs used when speaking with fish.

APR073716E Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #682 sc, 64pg, color $7.99
by various
Four stories.

APR073945H Fog Mound Book 1: Travels of Thelonious hc, 6"x9", 224pg, b&w $14.95
by Susan Schade & Jon Buller
For grades 4-7. 'In ancient times human beings ruled the Earth. At least that's what the old legends claim. But is it true? Thelonious Chipmunk is a Talker--an animal who has inherited the gift of language--and he, for one, believes in humans. Who else could have made the old paper postcard he treasures? His desire to know more about humans is fulfilled in a surprising and dangerous way when Thelonious is swept down the river into a strange new world--a world where gangs and warlords prowl amongst the crumbling remains of civilization. With three new companions--a bear, a porcupine, and a lizard--Thelonious embarks on a search for the far-off Fog Mound. It is a journey that becomes nothing less than a quest to uncover the secrets of Earth's past.' This book alternates prose and graphic-novel sections. It was published in May 2006 but only now is appearing in Previews; presumably book 2, due out this fall, will not be so delayed. See http://www.bullersooz.com/ for more. Looks attractive.

So what happens when a secret desire puts you at odds with your society?' See a six-page preview of this wordless comic at http://www.topshelfcomix.com/preview.php?preview=foxbunny&page=1 .
