Sorry to be late with this--when I did it for Usenet and tried to put it in here, Flayrah was down. Then I forgot it for a few days.

Any month with a Girl Genius collection is a good one (yay, Krosp!) but there are lots of other goodies, too. As witness:

Marvin and the Glambots.

MAY070196D1 Scooby-Doo #122 32pg, color $2.25

No ninjas. What the hell?

by Gerber, Colan, & Palmer
What Steve Gerber and Gene Colan did in 1980 after falling out with Marvel over Howard the Duck. This is in the cheaper pamphlet format. It's an O/A, but I don't recall seeing it offered the first time. MATURE THEMES

'A swashbuckling tale of a pirate squid and his gaggle of oysters, sea horses, crabs, and other scourges of one-seventh of the sea. Inspired by the pirate who passed to and fro over their murky depths, this fishy band pursued their own pirate lifestyle and engaged human buccaneers on their own turf... which was kind of hard since these intrepid sea beasties were pretty small.' PAGE 330
MAY073629F Dungeon Parade vol. 2: Day of the Toads sc, 6"x9", 64pg, color $9.95
by Sfar, Trondheim, & Larcenet
This humor/horror furry series is a big thing in France, and two more albums are collected in this volume. After doing some stories of a dungeon run as a paying proposition to suck in adventurers, the creators branched out into stories of its past, its gloomy future, and (as here) humorous stories happening between the first and second volumes of Zenith: an attack by a swarm of flying venomous toads and Herbert the not-so-heroic duck going on a mission to clear out the septic tank. Also, five 96-page volumes, comprising (I believe) fifteen of the French albums, are offered again so you can catch up. Recommended.

PAGE 331
MAY073656F Beaver and Steve vol. 1: A Shoeful of Trouble sc, 6"x9", 112pg, color $12.95
by James Turner
This collects the first year of strips from the website ( and three pages of new material. The comic won the Cartoonists Choice Award for Best Newcomer of 2005; amusing, but I am not all that impressed. Beaver, by the way, is a beaver, and Steve is a somewhat smaller dinosaur, a couple of steps up from stick figures.

PAGE 336
MAY073680F Furrlough #174 32pg, b&w $3.50
by various
The latest from three good ongoing stories: 'Lancaster: The Ghost Hunter' by Phil Gibson, 'Ace and Queenie' by Rusty Haller, and 'Cosmic Dash' by David Davis. Isn't that lovely? Hm? Cover by Diana Harlan-Stein.

by Various
Pinups and comic strips by Joe Rosales, Megan Giles, Trump, Ursula Husted, Christina Hanson, DAQ, Eddie Perkins, Shon Howell, Brian Sutton, Yamaneko-Ya and like that.
