Vegetarianism

Furry Reddit - Thu 13 Oct 2011 - 07:21

So basically, a thought popped into my head today. I've got some questions:

1: If you're vegetarian, do you think that being a furry has affected your stance, and if so, why?

2: If you're not, why doesn't being a furry affect your stance, and why?

Chris "Findra" Sturtivant, fursuiter, MUCK wizard, FurCon organizer, and pawpeteer, has passed away.

Furry Reddit - Thu 13 Oct 2011 - 06:59

I only knew him through FC and as a friend-of-friends, but I always found him to be a charming and friendly fellow whom I was always glad to see. It's an understatement to say that he will be sorely missed.

Here's a link to the story on Flayrah, since apparently I don't know how to reddit properly: http://www.flayrah.com/3708/findra-spindizzy-admin-and-fc-organizer-reported-dead

Furry Reddit - Wed 12 Oct 2011 - 19:17

Do furry's have bellybuttons? I mean, because you see drawings with them, but would they actually have belltbuttons? I feel kind of stupid asking this..

Has your furry spending changed due to the financial crisis?

Furry Reddit - Wed 12 Oct 2011 - 02:41

Many people have had less disposable income in recent years. Have you stopped buying furry material, or are you just more selective about what you spend on?

Do you buy fewer prints and trinkets vs. commissions, because they're less personal and can't waste the money; or more, because they're cheaper? Are you pickier about fursuit builders - paying only for quality - or will you take whatever you can get? Have you cut your fandom budget, or would you cut cable first?

Bonus question for artists/builders: Have you seen a change in what people are buying?

Fursuit Builder of the Month: Qarrezel

Furry News Network - Tue 11 Oct 2011 - 19:33

10/10/2011
By: Trashville

Tasmanian Wolf October 2011

In all my years as a furry, I don’t think I’ve discovered a fursuit builder quite as shockingly impressive as Qarrezel of Clockwork Creature. Clockwork Creature costumes are extremely beautiful and detailed and always stand out at furry conventions. The official website gallery provides sixty-two (not including customer photos) examples of Qarrezel’s masterpieces. This builder specializes in not only costumes but masquerade and Renaissance-themed masks. Clockwork Creature was enlisted to make fandom history in the film Bitter Lake. This movie that debuted at EF featured an all-fursuit cast. The fursuits I speak of were created by the one and only Clockwork Creature.

Describe your history in the furry fandom.
I don’t have much of one, to be honest. I’ve always loved werewolves and such. I stumbled on Kyoht and Goldenwolf WAY back in the day through the now non-existent “Temple of Luna” website. Not long after I discovered the Werewolves of Verdun Manor (now Running Wolf Productions), and decided to try making a werewolf costume for myself (see my answer to the next question). After that, working with furries was essentially the logical progression of things, and opportunities presented themselves via DeviantArt, Sheezyart, and later, FurAffinity.

When did you build your first costume and what was it?
My first costume (of an animal-related nature, anyway), was a werewolf mask that I made for Halloween when is was 12. It was crude, of course, but nevertheless pretty advanced considering that it was my first attempt, and I was pretty young, and my materials were of poor quality – I made it out of Celluclay and fun fur. The moving jaw was rigged with rubber bands. After that first attempt, though, I wanted to do it again, and improve, which of course started my endless obsession with creature costuming.

How many fursuits have you been paid to build?
Oh goodness, it’s hard to say! I counted an easy 100 just from what is currently in my DeviantArt gallery, but that’s not counting costumes that lack good photos, personal costumes, costumes made to sell at auction, and works that I consider outdated, and thus are no longer on display.

What is your construction method of choice (i.e heads)?
Our masks are made from cast polyurethane resin. Basically, the liquid resin is “slush cast” into a silicone mold to create a thin but durable shell. That shell is then fitted with hinges, jaw set, eyes, and any other necessary components, then covered in fur. The fur is carefully shaved to create a natural taper, and a fur hood/cowl and ears are attached.

What is your average price range?
Masks tend to start around $1000, and fullsuits tend to be around $2300 or so. They can be more or less depending on features. We have this nice price estimator available for people to play with (link available at the end of the article).

Who was your favorite to build?
That is so very, very hard to say, but I had a lot of fun with “Tasmanian” the werewolf; I guess that could be considered my favorite build.

What makes you unique as a builder and why should people choose you?
Our studio is a multi-person operation, which allows us to complete projects faster than other studios while maintaining a high level of quality. We also devote a considerable amount of time to making new developments, so our methods are steadily improving, and the range of items that we can make and materials we can work with is steadily expanding. Furthermore, I run a livestream most workdays, so customers get to watch their costume being made from beginning to end.
