It's Once de Mayo, which means Doodles is busy and I'm taking over again. A pretty good pile this month.

This is supposed to be out on 5 July but it's not in the text version of Previews. The DC Webpage suggests a ballet story. 'Duck Lake!' 'Wabbit Lake!'

MAY061710D2 Elephantmen #1 32pg, color $2.99
by Richard Starkings and Moritat
'They were genetically engineered to be supra-human weapons of mass destruction, but now they must walk amongst the people they were created to destroy. Hip Flask [hippo] and Ebony Hide [elephant] count amongst their number. . . .' Very noir; seems to be drawn mostly in shades of blue and gray.

MAY062758F LICENSABLE BEAR(TM) #3 32pg, b&w $3.50
by Gertler, Haller, Atwood, & Erbes
'The world's most delightful marketing icon takes on gay marriage, mortality, internet piracy, and static electricity in six fun stories.' I don't know if I'd buy a candy bar or computer with his image, but I do buy his comic.

AIRSHIP ENTERTAINMENT (http://www.studiofoglio.com/)
PAGE 220
MAY062781F Girl Genius vol. 5 112pg, trade paperback, color $19.95
MAY062782F Girl Genius vol. 5 112pg, hardcover, color $32.95
by Kaja Foglio, Phil Foglio, & Cheyenne Wright
This is only marginally relevant, the only major furry character being Krosp, King of the Cats, but it's one of my two or three favorite comics and my absolute favorite online comic (at http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/cgi-bin/ggmain.cgi), and I'm doing this list so I get to do what I want.
'Agatha Heterodyne is the last heir to the "Maddest of Mad Scientist" families, and on the run from the current ruler of Europe. In a fairy-tale castle on a mountain pass, she finds herself at the center of an evil plan to bring back one of the deadliest enemies of recent history.' Wonderful stuff. My highest recommendation of the month, and I say that in a month that also sees the latest volume of The Complete Omaha. Also in this month's Previews is a new printing of the vol. 2 paperback.

PAGE 230
MAY062845E Gold Digger #76 32pg, color $2.99

Another full-color dead-tree collection of his online comics, featuring martial artist Ayane "Mistress" Anno and the Northern Edge Guard.

MAY062849E Gold Digger: Throne of Shadows #3 (of 4) 32pg, b&w $2.99
by Fred Perry & Craig Babiar
More plotting to seize the were-rat throne. Fred's a busy little bee again this month.

PAGE 231
MAY062854E Ninja High School #141 32pg, b&w $.99
by Robby Bevard & Ben Dunn
Special bargain-priced issue to attract people who didn't know Ben Dunn was back on the comic, I suppose. Furriness of this issue may be zero. Ricky Feeple's vampire archenemy has kidnapped the infant daughter of a rival ninja team's trainer.

ARCHIE COMIC PUBLICATIONS (http://www.archiecomics.com)
PAGE 236
MAY062884E Sonic the Hedgehog #165 32pg, color $2.25

FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS
PAGE 301
MAY063132F Niger #1 8"x11", 32pg, b&w $7.95
by Leila Marzocchi
'A fascinating ecological fable done in woodcuts, Niger follows the life of a strange new being named "Pupa" born in the depth of a lake. Wandering about the surface among other creatures, she takes refuge in a glass and falls asleep. Some birds, curious for the event, organize themselves to protect this small, weak, creature to allow her to grow up. They call the "Fatmah hand" to ask her to pronounce a Fatwa, intended to discourage the other animals in the wood from threatening the small creature. A superb and thoughtful addition to the Ignatz series.'

MAY063133F The Left Bank Gang 7"x10", 48pg, color $12.95
by Jason
'F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, and James Joyce walk into a Parisian bar. No, it's not the beginning of a joke, but the premise of Jason's unique new graphic novel. Set in 1920s Paris, The Left Bank Gang is a deliciously inventive re-imagining of these four literary figures as not only typical Jason anthropomorphics, but graphic novelists! Yes, in Jason's warped world, cartooning is the dominant form of fiction, and not only do these four literary giants work in the comics medium, but they get together to discuss pen vs. brush, chat about the latest graphic novels from Dostoevsky ("I can't tell any of his characters apart!") to Faulkner ("Hasn't he heard of white space? His panels are too crowded!"), and bemoan their erratic careers. With guest appearances by Zelda Fitzgerald and Jean-Paul Sartre, you've got one of the funniest and most playful graphic novels of the year.'

GEMSTONE PUBLISHING (http://www.gemstonepub.com)

'Where's the Bin Been?', 'Inside Donald Duck!', and short Mickey Mouse and Beagle Boys adventures.

MAY063154E Mickey Mouse and Friends #291 32pg, color $2.95
by various
'Flip Mickey,' a feature-length adventure by Stefan Petrucha (The X-Files) and fan favorite Noel Van Horn, and 'The Old Switcheroo', in which Mickey trades brains with the Phantom Blot.

MAY063155E Uncle Scrooge #356 64pg, color $6.95
by various
Carl Barks' epic 'Hall of the Mermaid Queen'. Terry (Edge City) LaBan's 'It Must Be Magic', about the Beagle Boys. (I associate LaBan more with Muktuk Wolfsbreath, hard-boiled shaman, but I suppose that wouldn't resonate as well with Gemstone buyers.) Also Gyro Gearloose in 'Space Food Folly' and Flintheart Glomgold in 'Everything's Coming Up Rubies'.

MAY063156E Walt Disney's Comics & Stories #671 64pg, color $6.95
by various
'Fan favorite writer/artist William Van Horn teams Donald with three of his [own] characters--Uncle Rumpus, Woimly Filcher, and Baron Itzy Bitzy--for a mountain-climbing adventure called "Zenith"'. Also Mickey Mouse in 'Love Trouble' (1941) and Donald and Scrooge in 'Final Refuel'. Vintage Bucky Bug and new Li'l Wolf and April, May, and June stories round out the book.

PAGE 342
