Extinct woodpecker... really is extinct.

According to this article at MSNBC.com, researchers who believed they had found evidence that a species of woodpecker previously thought extinct were still present have apparently been led on a wild goose chase. Analysis has proven that the sounds recorded on tape last year were not the sounds of the elusive bird searching for a meal, but were in fact echos of gunshots.
