An American man was found guilty of animal abuse and fined $1,000 for slicing the tails off of his dogs with a box cutter...
From the related story... "(Goodin) said that he cut them off because they were knocking things off the coffee tables."
In jail for 30 days and $1000 fine? Not nearly enough of an example made out of him, imho.

I'm of two minds about this. One part of me agrees that the fine and the jail time are an appropriate punishment.
The other part would like to cover him in beef gravy and hurl him into a pen full of starving rats -- which is why reason and not emotion must rule the legal system.
