1. Camping update

Campsite reservations will close on Monday, July 29th. We still have some
spots available, but there are now *no* free spots for people to park their
cars at the campsite.

Please email camping@furtherconfusion.org for more information

More information is on the webpage here:
<http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2009/events/camping>

Anthony Chabot Campsite info is here:
<http://www.ebparks.org/parks/anthony_chabot>

Please do *not* show up at the campsite in your car unless you have a
vehicle reservation.

2. Picnic update

The picnic is free and open to all - no RSVP required!

As usual, we'll provide the food and drinks. More food is always welcome,
though, as are folks to help out in setting up, cleaning, and otherwise making
the picnic happen. If you would like to bring some food or condiments, please
drop us a line at info@furtherconfusion.org and we can let you know if we need
anything in particular, or just mark down what you're bringing.

This year, we will be at the Willow picnic site at Lake Chabot, with the
grilling kicking off around noon. There will be a tent there for people to
change into costumes. The picnic will quite serving food around 5pm and we
will breakdown the picnic around 6pm.

More information is on the webpage here:

3. Dealers Room and Furry Market Place

It's the end of July, and that means that August 1st is just days away!

So, if YOU want a space in the Furry Market Place for Further Confusion 2009,
it's time to get over to out website, go to the dealer's page, and grab your
Furry Market Place information and application by clicking on the link
provided on that page.

Or, if you want to do it the REAL easy way, click on the link below:
<http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2009/dealers/market-place>

Furry Market Place spaces are US$65.00 and come with ONE (1) Membership to the
convention as part of the price.

We start accepting applications on August 1st, 2008. Applications should NOT
be mailed BEFORE that date, as we will be selling the spaces in POSTMARK
order. Any applications with a postmark BEFORE August 1st, 2008 will be
considered last.

To give all the applications mailed on August 1st, 2008 a chance to get to us
and be considered at the same time, we will NOT start opening and processing
the applications until August 10th, 2008. All those who send in applications
will be notified in a timely manner as to whether they get a space or not.

We only have twenty (20) Furry Market Place spaces available this year. When
they are gone, people will be placed on the general waiting list for the
Dealer Room and Furry Market Place to await any possible cancellations or
additional opportunities.

Remember: The Furry Market Place is a place for the sales of goods of interest
to General Audiences. The sales of items rated higher than PG will not be
permitted. If you want to sell Adult Material and don't have a space in the
Main Dealer Room, either make an arrangement for someone that DOES have a
space in the main room to sell it on your behalf, or do NOT bring it for sale
at the convention.

For more information, please go to the Dealers section of the Further
Confusion
web site.

4. Events

FC2009 Events has now kicked off its panel drive. If you have any
panel suggestions, want to volunteer for panels, or would like to volunteer to
be panelists for our various tracks, please email us at
events@furtherconfusion.org with your questions and comments.

If you would like to work for Events, we do still have some track lead
positions open for FC2009. We are looking to hire an Art Track Lead, a
Science/Technology Track Lead and a Fursuit Track lead as well as gaming staff
and creator's lounge staff. Should you be interested in any of these
positions, please contact hr@furtherconfusion.org.

Let's make FC2009 something really special!

5. Supporting/Non Attending Membership

Further Confusion is introducing a new membership type for 2009, called the
Supporting/Non-attending Membership. This membership type is for those who
want to support Further Confusion, but who are unable to make it to the
convention. This type does qualify as a Further Confusion membership (and
allows participation in the FC 2009 Art Show, which requires a membership),
but does not allow attending the convention itself. You will receive a
convention packet (including con book) by mail after the convention.

6. Con Book Submissions

The program book for Further Confusion 2009 will be US letter size (8 1/2"
wide by 11" tall) and will be full four-color (CMYK, or cyan, magenta, yellow,
and black) throughout. Page count will be announced when it is decided. The
final deadline for submissions is 1 October 2008, to allow time for final
lay-out, executive approval, press check, and correction of any problems or
errors that arise during printing.

Illustrations, short fiction, articles, poems, and advertisements are welcome!
All submissions must fit the overall theme of Further Confusion by featuring
primarily therianthropic or anthropomorphic characters and should fit the 2009
theme of "Surf Safari". They must not contain explicit sex or violence and
should limit rough language; in short, they should be suitable for teens and
older. Artwork may be black-and-white, grayscale, or four-color (CMYK), but
should not be RGB. Not every submission will be published, in part because
available page count is limited. Please e-mail conbook@furtherconfusion.org
before sending submissions to make appropriate arrangements for transferring
files.

For more information, details on submission sizes, templates and prices see
the webpage. <http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2009/policies/conbook>

7. Badge Art Wanted!

Further Confusion is currently seeking artwork submissions for the 2009
membership badge inserts. Both color and black & white artwork will be
accepted, and all artwork will be considered on overall 'look and feel', plus
these additional points:

- Size: Art must scale to be printed at 4" x 2".
- Theme: Art must accurately reflect the theme of the con.
- Age appropriateness: The art must be suitable for viewing by children.

Artists submitting images should be aware that there is no payment for badge
art chosen, and the artist gives Further Confusion the right to reproduce the
image as badge art for FC2009. The artist will be credited on the insert and
in the con program book. The artist retains all other copyrights and
reproduction rights beyond the above.

Submission deadline is November 1st, 2008. All qualifying submissions will be
seriously considered and we will choose 6 designs. All artists will be
notified by December 1st as to whether or not their submissions have been
chosen.

Submission technical specs: We prefer JPG format at best possible quality
compression, at 300 DPI. An 8" by 4" original scanned at 300DPI gives us a
good file to work with. Badge art Submissions should be sent to
badgeartsubmissions@furtherconfusion.org. In the email specify how you wish to
be credited should your art be chosen.

8. Next Staff Meeting

Our next staff meeting will be on August 16th, starting at 1pm in the San
Jose DoubleTree hotel. Parking is free - we will be providing stickers at
the meeting which will allow the parking staff to know you were with
Further Confusion, and let you out without needing to pay.
