Japanese game development studio CyberConnect2 is working on a sequel to Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, gaming news websites are reporting.

CyberConnect2's president Hiroshi Matsuyama made the announcement at Salon del Manga de Barcelona, a Spanish manga and anime festival, last weekend. It is probable the game will be released for the Nintendo 3DS, although no platform has been officially given.

SolatoroboSolatorobo's setting is a future in which humans are extinct and the Earth uninhabitable. Anthropomorphic cats and dogs (Felineko and Caninu) populate a chain of islands floating above the planet's surface. The first game introduced Red Savarin, an orphaned Caninu who earns his crust by travelling between the islands to undertake tasks which range from the laughably trivial to the deadly dangerous. But when he rescues an unconscious Felineko from a crippled airship, the fate of the entire world ends up in his paws.

Solatorobo: Red the Hunter was shortlisted for the 2011 Ursa Major Awards. See crossaffliction's review.
