COVID-19 pandemic causes furry convention closures and delays worldwide

As governments restrict gatherings of people, furry conventions are being postponed or canceled. Here's a quick run down of events and their status as of December 27th 2021 20:30 EDT (UTC-4) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic - updates to come.

A new section has been added for past events impacted for historical purposes. More information will be added to deal with virtual versions of a physical gathering if applicable.

Update 2021 Year End - As conventions start to open again, the overall list of cancellations and delays is becoming clunky. The final update will be today December 27th, 2021. Any future cancelations or delays will be their own newsbytes or articles in the future.

Stealth vs blatant and the "Mouse Problem"; furry coverage in fictional media

As repeated media victims we furs are always on the lookout for furry references— good, bad or indifferent— on TV and elsewhere. There are two distinct styles in which our fandom is covered: bluntly by name, and more subtly. It’s easy to identify the former, but sometimes it’s more fun when they don’t use the 'F-word' to describe the group in which they are referencing in their content. In those instances, it seems more a stealthy shout-out for our animal-ears only, designed to fly over the head of anyone who doesn’t get it.

Today I wish to go over some of those moments in furry media that seem to hold general fandom idioms and how fun 'situational nuance' can be.

2017 Ursa Major Award winners announced at FurDU 2018

Ursa Major Awards banner by EosFoxx The results of the 2017 Ursa Major Awards were presented at an awards ceremony at FurDU 2018 in Surfer’s Paradise, Queensland on Saturday May 5 at 6 PM AEST [UTC+10].

Winners were selected by the public from nominations made earlier in the year. Each voter could choose three items in each category, providing three, two and one votes.

Furry Down Under fully booked

large_FurDUAtpaw.jpgAustralia's newest furry convention, FurDU (Furry Down Under), has announced reaching capacity for 2011.

FurDU organizer FlameDrake revealed that the 100-person cap on attendance was insisted upon by the Vibe Hotel, the same venue FurDU launched in April 2010. [tip: Jet Dingo]

Oz Kangaroo confirmed that staff are in discussion with several larger hotels on the Gold Coast, in the hope of lifting this cap in future years.
