This is certainly a different take on a very old legend. We’ve talked before about the author Greg Van Eekhout and his book Voyage of the Dogs. Well it seems he’s still in a canine mood with his new book, Fenris & Mott. “When Mott finds a puppy abandoned in a recycling bin, she’s ready to do everything she can to protect him. What she doesn’t realize, however, is that this is the legendary wolf Fenris, who’s prophesied to bring about the end of the world by eating the moon. Now Mott has found herself in charge of making sure the hungry pup—who’s busy munching on lampposts, cars, and water towers—doesn’t see all of California as an appetizer, while also hiding him from the Norse gods who are hot on his trail, determined to see the prophecy come true.” Typical canine hyjinks, of course. Recent Canine Poisonings Aimed at Wyoming Wolves
Posted by Demosthenes on Wed 9 Jun 2004 - 06:14The two pups in this article are victims of the most recent event in a string of poisonings in rural Wyoming, seemingly aimed at the wolf population, which are theoretical hazards to the livestock community as well as the big game hunting industry.
Authorities have found hot dogs and balls of meat stuffed with poison along the side of the road in eastern Wyoming and western Idaho, where Tim Sundles owns an ammunition store and hosts his webpage, Nature's Wolves. The website contains a similar method of poisoning wolves, as well as propaganda that contributes to his anti-wolf stance.

Unidentified Carolina Mammal
Posted by Allicorn on Fri 4 Jun 2004 - 08:05News-record.com carries an interesting article about several sightings of a creature "fox sized, but with short brown hair and a long cat-like tail". So far, locals and experts from area zoos have been unable to identify the species of the unusual animal. The article includes a picture of the animal. Do any furries know what this elegant looking critter really is?

Want a Wolf? Get a Husky!
Posted by foxlover on Tue 25 May 2004 - 15:03Here's a neat article that shows how close some breed are to wolves.
It also states that even though canine genes are almost totally consistant, the slight variation might allow folks with pups of mixed breeds to specifically know what breeds are in the "mix".
Only 3 more days to RCFM!
Posted by KOakaKO on Tue 25 May 2004 - 10:05Hey Y'all!
Rocket City FurMeet is almost here and we are going to have SUCH a great time this year! Plans are falling into place and we've already started moving the cargo...
The Art Show will be something to see, the Furry Variety Show is poised to be an entertainment highlight, the 24 hr. Artists' Alley will be unique in the Con world, the Hospitality (FOOD, to you Northerners) will be plentiful and varied, the Traveling LAN show will be a haven of pixellated delight, and we will have FREE GLOW TOYS at the Dance on Saturday night!
We'll be tormenting Guests of Honor Jim Groat and Tyger Cowboy, forcing them to do obscene things for our amusement. The Jaguar will be tormenting us all for his own amusement. We will have a massive DESSERT right after Opening Ceremonies... and right before Dinner. :P
We have photo contests, an 18 Table Dealers' Den, my very own Special cappucino for Free - twice, Yotewah's Spirituality Haven - in it's own room this year, Oldfreek's returning PawPetting track, Kakiro's Game room, Videos galore, ... and did we mention the FOOD?
Visit http://www.rcfm.net today, and see what we're going to be doing this weekend. Don't you wish you were too?
