Oren the Otter Suspends TCW and T&PJ

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

A check of the Ottercomics site this morning shows that both The Changing Workplace and Tommy & PJ are showing pages indicating that they have been "cancelled until further notice". While I don't read T&PJ, I do read TCW daily and the storyline lately has had Oren losing his job and his house, so if this is any indication of what's happening in RL it may be a long time before these strips are revived.

Hiya Kiddies! Several folks have been bending our ears here in Tucson about the slowness of the upgrades to the ZONIECON website(s). Here's the straight dope. The Geocities site has been all screwed up for a while now. Our Web-monkey, The WhiteWerewolf is clanging away at it and will soon have the new info up for yer perusal. For those of you who don't know us, we are the new punks in the convention field with three years gone and our forth rapidly approaching.

Ronald D. Moore--who recently received the go-ahead from The WB for a series based on the Dragonriders of Pern novel series--told SCI FI Wire that he hopes to remain faithful to Anne McCaffrey's books, with some concessions to TV. "The show will be an interpretation of Anne's books, my take on Anne's world," Moore said in an interview. "It's how I see it successfully moving into television."

Upgrade Underway

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Dealing with last week's problems delayed the roll-out of PHPNuke v4.4 (the code that drives Flayrah.com). I've started tweaking the code to my specs on a copy of the database. However, I did upgrade the poll code on this site, so the annoying bug of posting comments with no usernames should be fixed. At a first glance, the upgrade contains a number of other bug fixes, both noticable (poll comment fix) and not (lots of html code optimizations). There's also an included bulletin board and user-messaging system, as well as an FAQ manager, reviews manager, and a few other interesting things. Assuming nothing blows up this week, look for the new features towards the end of the week.

Michael Fry, co-creator of the Over the Hedge comic strip, told the Comics2Film website that DreamWorks honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg has picked up the strip's concept for development as a computer-animated feature film. Pacific Data Images (Antz) would reportedly develop the film. Hedge centers on a talking raccoon and turtle who live near suburbia.

On alt.fan.furry, Dan Caanan writes: "Effective February 13th, 2001, Rich Chandler has chosen to resign his

"
Rich posted quite a rant on aff about his reasons for leaving, as well. More fallout from Vanity Fair. Click below to read the rest of Conifur's press release.

The Vanity Fair : What it means to us, and thoughts about it.

Well, the much hated, feared, and anticipated article from Vanity Fair is out. As has become common knowledge, there was a reporter from the magazine at Midwest FurFest 2000, who interviewed several people in the furry fandom and spent some time at the convention.

Data loss

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Last night, Flayrah.com's web provider evidently moved the site to a new server without advance notification. I recieved notification only this morning when I checked my mail; the move evidently happened in the early morning hours. As far as I can tell, they used a slightly dated backup when moving the site. As a result, we lost a couple days worth of posts and comments. I'm not happy with this, but there appears to be nothing I can do to recover this data.

Interview with Author of "The Fox Woman"

Your rating: None Average: 5 (1 vote)

SFSite has an interview this issue with the author of The Fox Woman, a fantasy novel about a kitsune. I haven't read this one, but I've read some of Johnson's other work and found it intriguing. The interview's neat... anyone read the book yet? This is the site's review of it.
